I just saw that Cha Sweeney is attending Georgia Tech as a graduate transfer. I guess she graduated in three years. Had she stayed at Eastern, Sweeney possibly could have become the highest scoring player in MAC history (needed 692 to tie Kim Knuth). Eastern has a new coach this year.
Holy Smoke! That's a huge loss!
Sweeney's departure isn't the only loss for EMU's new coach. The other guard, Janay Morton packed up her 13.5 ppg average and enrolled at Nebraska.
On one hand EMU has been a thorn in the side of the Lady Rockets for while now, so maybe this will be one less obstacle in their path this year. On the other hand losing top MAC talent to P5 schools is not good for the conference and its ability to improve its image and standing in the sport.

Besides, while I didn't like to lose to EMU, I have to confess I did enjoy watching Sweeney play.
Too bad we couldn't get her here for her grad-transfer season.

Toledo had their shot at Cha Sweeney when she was a junior at Rogers but evidently backed off recruiting her after they signed Cat Wells and Michele Hayes in the class in front of her. I doubt that at this stage of the game she was very interested in turning down a Georgia Tech offer in order to play for the Rockets and against her former team mates among others.

As the saying goes "Hindsight is a d---- sight better than foresight"
Most schools don't like to grant transfer to other schools within a conference.

I didn't think they had a say in it if it was a graduate transfer. Not certain on that, but I had read that somewhere once before. Maybe that article was incorrect?

I believe you are correct. It's akin to free agency.
I don't believe schools need to grant transfers to grad student transfers. Those athletes have completed their degree and are free to play elsewhere. Could be wrong, but it is different than someone requesting a release to continue on scholarship elsewhere.

I think she can transfer and play right away because the coach was fired.

The coach was not fired. He accepted the head coaching position at U Mass.

"In four seasons at the helm of the EMU women's basketball squad, Verdi oversaw improvements in each season. He took over the program on April 26, 2012, and compiled a record of 72-61; however, in his first season, the team went just 8-22. In 2013-14, the squad posted a record of 18-14 before tying a program-best 24 wins during the 2014-15 campaign when the Eagles went 24-13, including winning 17 of their final 23 games. This season, the squad posted a record of 22-12 overall as it earned its third consecutive postseason appearance."
