Do you really see Notre Dame ever fully joining the ACC? I don't (see: the Big East). Instead, I see Notre Dame and BYU both joining either the BIG 10 or Pac 12 eventually. Even if BYU joins the BIG 12 for a few years, I see them leaving the unstable BIG 12, because I believe the powers that be and the CFP really want a Power 4, with each conference champion participating in it and thereby fitting nicely in their 4 team college playoff.

ND could snap their fingers and create a new conference with whoever they want in it.
BYU will get lucky to be invited to a P5.

Both are religious independent football schools and BYU is a ND jr. at least to the Pac 12 and Big 12. They both have a national following as well and just like ND, BYU hasn't accomplished that much in a while.
