this sucks we needed at least two more years before this happened

What would Big 12 expansion mean for AAC, C-USA, Southern Miss?http://www.sunherald.com/sports/article90637012.html

Longer than that.
You guys are out of your minds if you think UAB would ever be allowed to join the Big 12. Getting the team back is one thing, but that is a bridge too far
Like our chances

UAB has a more realistic shot at the AAC, especially if the B12 takes 4 teams from them(which is highly doubtful). Even then we are behind a lot of CUSA schools and UMass in the pecking order. Marshall, Old Dominion, possibly USM, and even the lowly F_Us, if UCF or USF were to leave. Add to that the positive things, athletically, going on at Ga State and the city of Atlanta and we are probably behind them, too.

Exactly. I don't think anyone here has ever thought we would jump to the Big 12. That's absurd.

What isn't absurd is moving to the AAC after they get poached. But we needed a couple more years to be in a good position to make that jump.
Our best shot for the AAC is to have a timeline of new facilities, including a stadium, that would be completed; and negotiate that our conference compensation is scaled and contingent on meeting those construction goals. Cancellation of a project that was part of the negotiation means dismissal from the conference.

It's the AAC we are concerned about.
So within a couple of years, the BOT will be gone? Because that's the only way UAB is making any upward move.

If we have to do this with a contingency, then why would the AAC accept us in the first place. Not trying to be an ass, but looking at that from their perspective?

UAB has a lot to offer, especially when comparing it to Huntington, Hattiesburg, etc. we needed at least a year back to show we can field a competitive team and we will support our team in the stands. If the big xii expands next year, I think there is next to no chance of us moving. Also, who is going to be the face of our campaign to move to the AAC?

IF the Big 12 expands eastward, it will likely be at the expense of the AAC so that is where any vacancies would occur. The chances of UAB being considered will hinge upon how aggressively it can build its undergrad student body, new football facilities and win on the field after 2017 (if bad - 6-6 or worse -, 2017 would be considered nationally as a "free pass" season). A new state of the art stadium - BJCC or OCS - would be a plus by that time.
After the last 2 years I gave up predicting the future of UAB athletics. I have consistently underestimated both the pettiness and the brilliance of all the different players involved. I suspect we're going to be in a conversation somewhere for realignment but I refuse to guess anymore

All UAB (or any other upward bound program) can do is deal with what it can (to some extent) control. As long as private charitable contributions continue to roll in, UAB can continue its present football building plans and add to them as permitted by local and system administration.

UAB has essentially ZERO control of SETF funding which along with tuition is the bulk of nonmedical undergrad finances, and Alabama remains the 4th worst state in reduction of Post Secondary spending in America since 2008 (see table in the B&G forum).
Isn't it incredible to think we competed in a league with current ACC and Big XII teams not too long ago? 03-puke

Which is why it is not impossible for us to be included, despite what these naysayers say on this board. What do we have to lose in the effort to get there? If we try and aren't chosen, we're no worse off. But we can make a strong argument for inclusion! We should pitch ourselves and have Birmingham Business leaders help us push. It's not impossible.
