Per the Toledo Athletics Twitter page, Brent Balbinot has been named new "Voice of the Rockets"

He spent the past 12 years work at Iowa, covering women's basketball and baseball.
At least he isn't from Iowa State...
What does this job pay? I though it was more like part-time, not enough to get a guy to make a major move.

I think it was a part time job for Beier but for the new guy they may have made it full time and give him some other responsibilities in the Athletic Department.
He has nice pipes. Listened to a bit of his demos. B1G womens hoop announcer is an upgrade. Welcome to Toledo

Will he be an employee of UT or Learfield?
Too bad Joe Tait didn't apply...

Still, a good hire
you folks will enjoy his work a great deal....known BB for a number of years, talented broadcaster and a good guy..
Hope he grows on me but, from sampling his broadcasts, he is no Mark Bier . . . at least now.
Mark Beier is no Jerry Kiel either. Kind of the point. Need a new voice. He will be fine

Hope you're right but, albeit a small sampling, what I heard was vanilla.
There are some podcasts he did at THIS SITE.

Well, he's an excellent communicator. He has a young sounding voice and is pleasant to listen to. It will be interesting to see what he sounds like when he gets excited. Glad he and his wife are interested in coming here.
Listened for a bit. Like what I hear. Just don't know how anyone could replace Mark's signature rumbling Rrrrrrrockets call. That I will miss.

He will come up with his own

Never heard Mark say "bends and sends"

Family is a big issue. Might be a stepping stone for him but it is better than using a less than local talent just cutting his teeth in the business.

I remember being surprised by the Beier hire. He did a good job

No Twitter account but there is a NOT address that suggest that there is something worth mocking. That can be a good thing

Agree he has an easy voice, unhesitant delivery but... well count the cliche's with me.

Iowa - Michigan

Cliche's so rapid sounds more like satire of a sportscaster, than a sportscaster. I didn't have the stamina to make it far into the broadcast.

If he can pick up a more conversational style and is interesting at it and leave the announcer talk in the bathroom mirror, he'll be a great addition. Otherwise, I couldn't handle it without shooting the radio.
