It has been almost 2 years since ETSU did a rebrand for not only the athletic department but for the whole university. Despite some initial reservations (http://csnbbs.com/thread-694704.html) I believe the new logos, colors and uniforms have been met with lots of praise. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well the new logos have taken off around the area. I see lots more cars and hats with the E logo than I ever saw with Darth Bucky.
I know some think that our colors are moving more towards West VA but actually our colors are exactly the same as the Cal Bears. We both are using Pantone 282 C for Navy and Pantone 123 C for Gold (http://calbears.com/pics33/0/EP/EPPDACKZ...ID=30100). Just totally guessing here but I imagine Nike may have gave ETSU some input on the color change. The "old gold" that was previously used was a tough color to get uniforms for in the past. Using the same color palette as a major school probably makes it easier for us to get uniforms and gear (consequently Cal is moving to Under Armour next year).
Torch Creative was the company behind the logos of the rebrand. Here is a link to their Dribble site which has some incomplete logos they did for ETSU (https://dribbble.com/torch_creative ).
I know a lot of people scoff at taking the time to redo the branding and logos but I believe it has and will make a huge impact for ETSU in the future. The old ETSU "mountain" logo looked more like a physicians office logo than a university logo and our athletic logos have been all over the place. The E logo has the potential to last for decades and is something that while simple, is easily identifiable.
