As things stand now, what level of athletic budget can UAB be expected to maintain after its football program gets back on the field and generating revenue after the 2017 season? Earlier, as an outsider to UAB athletic income, I had "guestimated" that UAB would need an annual income in the $30 million range, but these figures indicate I was too low by about 50%.

That is true, but my question is now that UAB can see the financial commitment level of a bottom rung conference that is located roughly half way between the G5 and P5 in status, can we put together a program that can fit their financial parameters and how long will it take?
It is great that UAB is getting $500,000 gifts for specific program needs, but for us to move to such leagues as the AAC, we need people who can turn on a cash faucet and keep it running year to year.
As long as the admin doesn't completely mess up the new football stadium, ODU should be in good shape for years to come.
Academically, ODU needs to merge with EVMS (Eastern Virginia Medical School) to bolster its reputation, and I think that'll happen sooner than later.

Probably helps that it is only a couple decades old, you won't have as fierce a fight from the EVMS alumni (I still wear MCV shirts...). I'm surprised that didn't happen first considering that MCV was merged into what's now VCU before EVMS was created. BUT, I bet you might have to fight William and Mary (

If I had a Vote. Which I do not. UAB should sit and stay where they are so much talk of this and this and shuffling let things settle and be the charter member of C-USA. Let them move to the other conferences. It will do us good. I'd rather be a full member of C-USA and be true. Don't itch the itch. I'd rather be a winner and a front runner and a member of the conference then keep shuffling to a new conference unless we can get into the ACC not the opps whats their name or the big 12. don't think we have the budget to move. not saying anyone was proposing us to the big 12 or ACC. That would stir up things and who would want thant. Stay and Sit are we still their anyway. Hope so dang. dont leave for better if you dont have better right. oh know .

Yeah, I remember that EVMS and W&M study going on, but haven't heard much about it since then. Hopefully it got canned! Plus, how ridiculous would it be to have W&M's medical school less than 2 miles from ODU? Hopefully the Governor and the General Assembly would have some sense before making that decision.
If the AAC does expand, would love for it to be UAB and ODU. I have some family in Hoover so it will be nice to see a football game once y'all get back on the gridiron!

The AAC is a better conference than cusa. Staying in cusa and watching some combination of odu, Marshall, southern miss, etc leave makes no damn sense.
Realignment for teams like UAB in this sports environment is like trying to keep your head above water in a pool of rising sewage. You want to keep rising up. UAB can move up to the AAC, but it will still be sewage. (Just like Memphis going to the Big East and it magically becoming the AAC) Stay where you are as the sewage rises and you will suffocate in the sewage as your head drops below the rising level. You have to keep moving up to keep from drowning in crap. You are still swimming in crap, but at least you are swimming and not drowning.
To summarize, non-metaphorically:
The current AAC is what CUSA used to be. The current CUSA is what the Sun Belt used to be. As the AAC robs from CUSA, CUSA will rob from the Sun Belt, weakening it even further. Movement is better than stagnation.

Even if we were immediately get a full distribution (doubtful)less than four million more - hard to imagine where the extra fifteen million of revenue comes from. In the long run hard to figure out - how we cold afford it. Remember our frozen deficit

Once the realignment shakes out and they bring in new teams from CUSA, that average will go down. We wouldn't be joining the current AAC.
