Watched the press conference again today..and, just honestly, it makes me sick to my stomach. I put together some of the most relevant soundbites.

I'm happy for Haase, but I can't help but feel depressed about it. I believed in him and knew he could really turn this thing around (and he really did for the most part).

Great hire for Stanford though, and probably a good move for Haase and his family.
Ugh...I'm happy for him because he did nothing but great things here. But I sure wish he hadn't said all that stuff about being here for a long, long time and not having to do one of these press conferences in a while.
Its just hard for me to accept that coaches words mean nothing. He did a good job at UAB, the only thing I hate, and its not just him but most coaches, is coach speak.
Quote:This a destination job for me, this isn't something that I am thinking boy if I do well for a little bit, maybe I can move on somewhere. I want to be here
He's a good salesman, and coach. He'll be successful
C'est la vie.

Moving on.
If we are being honest, I doubt Haase thought he would get a high profile job in this few years at UAB.

Oh, I agree.

I just feel like you should avoid saying stuff like that at all. He put that out there, nobody else did. A lesson learned for a first-time head coach.

Yep. I think Haase deserves a bigger job based on his performance alone but the Roy Williams connection helped him as much as anything, IMO. Without that I think he'd be getting interest at this point but I'm not sure if he would have gotten an offer. Similar to Mike WHite going to Florida last year.

At least he did not say "We can win with the players we have and the facilities already in place" -- and then go 5-19.

But to be fair, after the football debacle and the hostage video with Watts, UAB is no longer the same school that hired him. The university changed, and the UA system has shown itself to be predatory and self limiti g toward UAB success, and frankly i dont blame him for one second for changing his mind about long term commitment after last year.

Me either. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset with him for taking the job. It just stings when hearing that replay.
A long long time ....was his tenure the shortest of any uab bball coach?

So to be clear, you want the next coach to say he is happy to be at UAB, and he hopes he is successful so that he can be out of here as soon as possible.

Good luck with that. The next coach will say a lot of the same things, but as long as he is successful, and can't get people to come to games to watch his team play teams from the 22nd best conference, he will be out of here too.

Can't blame anyone but Mr. Ray Watts and the toxic environment that will surround him until his last day at UAB.

And BOTH left UAB for P5 school's jobs. Coincidence?

Right, but those numbers are reflective of UAB having its winningest season ever compared to a very mediocre Stanford team that was getting ready to fire its coach...

If Stanford sees any success under Haase at all, the place will be packed out.

Well, there's that, and Stanford is a PAC 12 school and UAB a mere CUSA school.

Yep :(

As a recent graduate, this is the first coaching change I've experienced as a UAB fan...and it sucks. I guess this is a wake up call to harsh reality that we are a "second-rate institution" at least when it comes to athletics.
