Will this have any impact on yall?

Quote:Facing a budget crisis, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards says higher education in the state could be compromised. And that includes the possibility of college athletics in Louisiana being canceled.

In a statewide televised address Thursday, Edwards said campuses could run out of money and be forced to shut down in April, highlighting the LSU football team as one of the potential losses from massive cuts to higher education funding.

It would, depending on when La Tech would actually run out of money. But there is an almost zero likelihood that any of that actually happening.
No way in hell the ever makes any cuts to LSU athletics. The rest of us may experience some hardships and cutbacks, but I doubt anything on a severe program ending scale.
Scare tactics. He knows the one way to get the attention of everyone in the state is to threaten football. It's no different than the threats of federal government shutdowns. It scares all the government employees, but the worst that ever happens is they get a vacation. Then they get back pay for the time they didn't work. The democrat governor wants to raise taxes. The republican legislature wants to cut spending. Sound familiar? They'll work out a deal.

With as many LSU fans, as well as fans from all universities, would this not hurt his re-election chances? Not sure how election terms work so it might be a moot point if he is in his last term of office.

He has only been in office for a month. But yes when his term is up I would think threats like this could hurt his chances at re-election.
It was either Jon Bel or Diaper Dave, and Louisiana chose Jon Bel. Personally, I was pulling for Diaper Dave, but only because I like laughing at Louisiana.
As long as we continue to subsidize tax breaks on corporations headquartered in Houston while employing 90% of their workforce in Louisiana...the state will always be paying the price.

But Diaper Dave lost, thus robbing me of four years of sarcastic commentary. Louisiana hasn't let me down this badly since *The Waterboy*. I mean, come on; y'all loved Diaper Dave.

This is more of a concern for @Ruston. The academic "separation" they try to claim from their sister N.LA school, ULM, has disappeared.
No way LSU@BR suffers. Too many Walmart tigger fans out there.

Yes. It is remarkable that not one word of this matter has been uttered by the president of ltu-r. Or that there has been zero responses from any ltu-r posters on any of the threads about it on RP, the SBC board, etc.

Especially given the budget crisis we are under, news of the academic decline of a university is something that every tax payer in Louisiana should be concerned about. It is high time we stop funding under-producing universities.

But look at all the tv sets they bring....LOL. No sympathy for their arrogant asses. Heard about all of their separation for too many years.

FINALLY!!!! Someone from ltu-r responds about their declining academics!!!

And it was as eloquent and pertinent as would be expected.

Now maybe the @ruston president will address this issue and explain what he plans to do to rectify the problem. But no one should hold their breath.
We knew there couldn't be a "LA Tech" thread without the Ragin Cajuns turning it into a shitfest. Why are you here, don't you have a probation to serve?

UL-Lafayette academic fraud.

this ULL guy started a Congrats ULM thread as an excuse to bash Tech over there and continued to wonder why no Tech posters were responding

It is to be noted that for all the personal bashing of me and the negative reps, none of the @ruston folks are addressing the facts of their decline in academics. But then again, how can you defend the indefensible?

That the best you got? That has to be the worst red herring ever.

Why don't you explain the decline in academic standing at ltu-r?
can we shut this thread down?

1) ULM definetly deserves kudos for achieving R3 status: especially given the dire state of funding we are all faced with.

2) ULM is a member of SBC, so the SBC board was the perfect place to give kudos to our conference mates.

3) Still not one word from any @ruston fan addressing or refuting the announcement of their new Carneige classification.

Since ths thread (not started by myself or any other UL fan) was addressing the current financial mess our state is in, and its impact on higher education, it is perfectly appropriate to discuss the academic status of all of its universities. But if needed, we can have this discussion in another thread.

I read the thread and at first it was amusing but I've never seen a dead horse beat so thoroughly.... it's almost embarrassing to read.

I usually support Cajun fans in their endeavors...

My question is what is the basis of this ranking? How do they determine who is what tier? If it's based on money spent on research or PhD candidates that are graduated, couldn't you just blow research dollars without any substantial results and be a PhD mill and have a great ranking but not actually be doing anything that constitutes a good academic institution.
