Former Rocket All-American Emma Kertesz Polley will compete in the O Trials for the women's marathon on Feb 17 in L A. The event will be televised on NBC.
I found these boards through some links when Coach Campbell left and was excited to see a post about running. Just a note, the trials will actually be held on the 13th of February.

Another alum (Nicole Camp) has qualified as well. Our assistant coach qualified recently, giving the Rockets three with ties to the program toeing the line in LA.

Very exciting. Thanks for supporting!
We try to keep track (no pun intended) of all UT sports here. Which reminds me, it's about time to bump the thread about the 2015-16 track and field schedule. UT has a meet coming up soon.

And getting off topic a little, it won't be long before there are threads for baseball and softball and we bump the threads for golf and tennis.
It's great to have such an interested and engaged fan base and support group.

Many of us (self included) are former UT track guys. We're still interested in following. I attend meets when I can and always get updates from the 50-50 ticket sellers at hoops and football games. BTW, there might be an "occasional" post criticizing the coaching. Just ignore those! 03-wink
Criticism comes with the territory as a college coach. Glad to see alum following the team. Please feel free to introduce yourself if you see me at a game or meet. We're hosting outdoor MAC this spring and will be doing an alumni gathering, details to be sent out soon.

Sounds great! Didn't realize we were hosting. I'll definitely be there.
Welcome to the board! We have some supporters of all sports here. I ran way back in the day as well.

Any non-distance signings? We are passionate about winning xc titles but we had always been very good at jumps. Indoor and Outdoor were MAC runner up just few years ago by scoring in all event areas.

Thanks for stoping by!
Another alum, that's great! We did not sign any non distance in the early period but that was not surprising. With the early signing still being new to this group, most non distance kids are waiting until the April period. Distance runners get senior year of Cross to show times but non distance kids don't. Many want to have at least indoor to show some improved times for increased opportunity. Sprint and jumps are our main priority for the April signing period and we are in on some really good ones.

We're looking for MAC level scorers because a title is our main goal. We will invest in and put the time and effort in to balance the team and try to contend in every season.
Great to hear. We had a lot of national level jumpers with Coach Jin in the last. April Williams and Candy Campbell along with Mikki Sutherland and Kia Douglas.

A lot of us were supporters of Coach Hadsell and the program. Faults aside he was great guy and one heck of a coach. Obviously we are all hoping you can prove yourself over the next few years. Ninth in the MAC and 18th in the region had not happened since before he was here. But we also know his last recruiting classes were unprecedented and with them graduating it had to be tough.

This distance class on paper looks good. Now we hope to see it translate to moving up to type of program it used to be. Would like to see some 18'6" long jump signees and have them at 19' soon like old days.

There is support here for the program. Don't be stranger and just know the level we are accustomed to. Want to see it there again. Many of us give back financially.
Sorry, got logged out and forgot my password. Bit of a newbie problem I guess.

I definitely understand that this fall is not what you are used to and not what I'm used to either. Classes were extremely unbalanced and that's something that can't be fixed in any other way than to get them balanced over time. We're on a good path towards that with this freshman class and next year's class. Knowing that we would be down this year due to that, I made the decision to redshirt Noe, Vince, and Phelps. The idea was that we give our freshmen a year to adapt, sign a good class and then have those three women with those two recruiting classes for two whole years. No doubt it hurt us this year but I think it is in the best interest of the program moving forward. Hope to have a nice surprise addition to the team to announce very soon as well.

We had a freshman jumper last year who went over 19' while redshirting so we'll be looking for her to do some good things this year. Bringing in 2 jumpers is a focus for this year. Crazy that OH doesn't do the triple jump in high school so many are learning that when they get to the college level, which puts in state jumpers at a disadvantage during recruiting. As I said, sprints and jumps are a big focus for us right now in recruiting. It's another area where we need to get the classes evened out and have the recruiting cycles matched up in the years to come.

Please feel free to share updates. This is rare (for a MAC board) in that women's sports and non-revs get a fair amount of interest. Great to have a coach's perspective.
That's all great news. Hopefully the next couple years will get program back to the level it used to be. Triple jump had always been a specialty at Toledo for men and women. School record for men and women were MAC records with April over 44' and Aaron Hopkins (before any of our time) over 53' on men. They were all long jumpers that were converted by Coach Jin over 25 years.

We wish you the best. Keep up informed. You have big shoes to fill but we were so bad before Coach Hadsell for so many years that we have learned to be patient. Hope your men can show some improvement too. They were 5th at MAC and Top-15 at region when Toledo hosted regional.

That was an amazing day. Incredible course. Beautiful weather. Women's team was 3rd with only around 80 points. His 2012 team was even better but I think Wright had to miss districts and nationals. My friend's niece was 8th Toledo girl on that 2012 team at MAC and was all-Mac. She was a 20:00 walkon.

We're behind you coach. Good to see you don't mind the scrutiny.

Speak for yourself on NCAA Champion Hopkins. Ended his basketball career at UT after injuring his elbow ON THE RIM! I was listening to the game and also saw him jump in a dual meet at UT. Man could sky.

Go Far, Go Irish! (regarding Emma Kertesz, local & CCHS alum)

Don't care about the Irish thing but I hope she goes far, fast. I am the proud owner of a Team Polley T-shirt!
Haven't seen a story posted anywhere, but I checked the results this morning.

Looks like Emma came in 39th, which is a huge improvement from her qualifying position which was 130th.
Nicole Camp came in 71st
Unfortunately, it looks like Coach Bluske did not finish.

I think all three are still pretty young for marathoners, so hopefully they will all be back in 2020.

I get tired driving that far. All props to those that run it. I guess we have a pretty serious local effort at developing long distance runners? If only we could increase our elevation a mile or two.

How come we see so many good runners from elevation in Africa but not S. America? I spent some time, not long, in higher elevation in S. Ame and no joke, on return it took me two weeks before I could even get a buzz drinking. I have to imagine the Antiplano would be an amazing place to train.
