Kent Read, Kent Write, Kent State.

What the hell are we doing hiring a defensive coordinator from a team we curb stomped this season, and always do?

To be fair their defense was pretty good the last few years. Offense couldn't keep them off the field.
Anyone else notice that it's only 21 miles from Alliance to Kent? Coincidence? I think not!

Okay, well can he bring along that one Holley twin who is their star defensive player?

Holley twins? Think I saw a movie with them. Very agile.
Interesting...there's a video online from a couple years ago where he talks about camp...says the right things. If I were more than a water engineer, I would have remembered to copy the link.

Holley Toledo!
We needed a good defensive line coach as well as d coordinator excellent move.
Guy was a Co-DC at Miami when they won the MAC in 2004. He has Big Ten experience at Indiana. He has a good amount of experience and is in his mid 40's. He has a lot of ties to the state of Ohio for recruiting, and finally..........he does not have any ties to Mount Union. Sounds like a lot of what many on here were asking for.
Hate to see Heacock go. Having said that, George looks like a solid choice.
From Kent State? I assume Eastern Michigan didn't have any coaches we could steal then....

JK....I was really hoping Heacock stayed but if this guy is as good as you all are suggesting, I'm happy.

Because so much of the budget was burned over a Candle?

His background appears to be mainly MAC and Indiana.

Yay.

Next year we see whether Candle hires as well as he recruits.
Heacock was from KSU too. Sounds like George did a fine job getting more from less at Miami, Indiana and Kent St. Developed some good talent from KSU. Can't wait to see what he can do with our bunch.
I think it is unusual for UT to hire two coaches who currently have jobs in the MAC. Not saying it is bad, just don't remember MAC schools doing it. These appear to be lateral moves for both coaches.
Lateral moves?

In no disrespect to Kent State and what they did several years ago, but I do not put Toledo and KSU on the same page. Toledo's facilities and fan base are incredibly better than what KSU offers.

I'd say a move from Kent to Toledo is a slight step up.

Slight step? Bottom 25 program to top 30 program... One who consistently wins more than it loses. One that has 3 bowl wins in 5 years. 5 appearances in 6. A team that consistently beats the champion from the previous schools division... Money wise may be only a slight step. But opportunity wise? Kent to Toledo is huge. Even if both are in the same conference. Toledo gets P5 teams at home. Kent gets the band to show up for home games...
As OC, Candle had to go up against George's KSU defense last year. He must have been impressed.

I remember that Amstutz hired Rob Spence as Rocket OC when he became HC because he was impressed with how well Spence designed his La Tech offense in a game against UT. Tom said that Spence's offensive schemes drove him nuts. Spence ended up doing a great job here.
