I thought we were playing USC-Upstate. I hope Haase has scouted the right team. Embarrassing.

My tickets say USC Upstate
UNC-Upstate is imaginary.
uggghhh. my first response was that this is the exact type of thing I've been suggesting for years. give students a dumb reason to dress up and show up, and they'll take it. great idea
then...cant get the team right
Maybe it's just a tricky font and you're reading it wrong, like U2B

It is USC Upstate. This is incompetence on the part of someone in the athletic department.
Rave Cinemas ceased to exist in Alabama a couple of years ago

Probably someone pretty low level. I had to search around pretty hard to find this. It's on the UAB Athletics facebook page. Not even the basketball page. Nowhere on twitter, nowhere on the official website as far as I can tell. Not in an email that I've seen. Probably not a huge problem.

Haha another good point. I'm not sure all of them have been bought out though. The Vestavia one was bought by Carmike.

They have all been sold and the corporate entity is now part of Cinemark.
Wow...does nobody proofread anymore?
We have to pay some sort of licensing fee to use a picture of a Star Wars character, right? Maybe the 501st Legion already took care of that?

I'm assuming not since the text in the graphic says "your favorite galactic warriors" but does not reference Star Wars specifically.
It appears they were careful not to use the name Star Wars though. Probably because they were unsure if the character pictured was Star Wars or Star Trek.

The picture on the left of the graphic says "sandtrooper," though. I'm assuming this will disappear from facebook and the whole promotion will either be rebranded or not happen. But maybe this licensing gray area is interesting only to me and is actually of no consequence.

Edit: This is what the 501st Legion is.

Interesting quotes from their FAQs:

Q: Is the 501st a part of Lucasfilm?

A: While recognized by the inclusion of the 501st name in official Star Wars material such as books and video games, the 501st is not affiliated with Lucasfilm nor do we rely on the company for bookings, event coordination, compensation, or costuming materials. The 501st Legion is a volunteer fan organization.

Q: Where do you get those costumes?

A: Our costumes are the result of careful research, fabrication and a lot of hard work. The majority of our costume components are hand built and assembled in our spare time. Given that the likenesses portrayed by these costumes are the intellectual property of Lucasfilm, it must be stressed that the 501st Legion does not provide or manufacture costumes for purchase.

The 501st has special permission to do these types of things as long as they abide by certain rules and policies.

Considering the "official" UAB Men's Basketball Facebook page hasn't been updated since June 22nd...I wouldn't be so sure.
I would think someone who is involved in NCAA athletics would catch in their proofreading that UNC Upstate does not exist. I would also like to think the person creating this promotion follows NCAA athletics.

They're awfully busy in Barlow Arena.
The 501st Legion is legit...if you've never been to an event they are a part of.

They have very high quality costumes and are a pretty large group. They stay in character very well. I imagine the concourse of Bartow would look more like the hallways of the Death Star with all of the character activity.

Don't get carried away...this is just the Alabama Garrison and from the looks of it...they don't have that many volunteers lined up for the game yet.
