Just 4 weeks ago the Rockets were ranked in the top 20, undefeated, two wins over P5 schools and on the verge of a historic season and possibly a New Year's Day bowl. Stars were aligned for the type of season fans of every G5 teams dream about.
Lost to NIU (again) and saw it all slip away.
A week ago, stars aligned again, all the teams that needed to lose did and the team is right back on track, ranked, championship on the line, still an outside shot at NYE bowl.
36 hours ago, coach and nearly entire staff gone, recruiting class quickly being poached and now with a second loss.
Getting the rug pulled out from under us twice in 4 weeks sucks. That's why we're pissed.
You would think being a long-suffering Red Sox fan that this $hit wouldn't bother me - but it does. I'm just learning to understand there are more important things in life and I just can't let the lack of caring by a former coach get me riled up. I don't know the guy and probably never will, but all the hype he has fostered to be written and said about him does now appear to be a character created from his own imagination of how he sees himself. He's just as greedy as the next guy out there. I couldn't care less that he left the team - but what really irritates me is just what you wrote about - he had 2 chances in our stadium to take us to the championship game - and failed both times. Both times our opponents had more will to win that we did. End of story.
The highs and lows of sports still make it worthwhile. What does not make it worthwhile is dealing with tools like Campbell at your alma mater.

Yes agree. Same thoughts have been rolling around in my head. Now we have a dumpster fire. This year's recruiting class may disappear as quickly as a Coullop class, but I think we have enough in the pipeline to be competitive for two years befit his would affect us. Or we hire super recruiter and things will be ok. It may be a bad/good example but niu had 3 coax he's in like 4-5 after Kill and they are ok.
When Pinkel left, fans felt happy for him. He held out for a Washington job that was never made available to him. He had a complete career at Toledo, and Amstuz was there for a new chapter. When Amstutz was done, fans were okay with it. His coaching tenure faded slowly like someone in hospice. When Beckman left, there was Campbell. There is no natural transition from Campbell. He just left, took everything with him, and continues to take the future. Left after a loss to WMU, one week away from a MAC title.

Probably because he's a wolf in sheep's clothing. He's a narcissistic, egomaniac, pathological liar. I hope ISU goes 0-12 next year and he gets fired and ends up coaching the D-line at Massillon Perry HS where this whole charade started with him as a punk kid with a crappy haircut.
I will never begrudge Pinkle for leaving. He had a full career here and it was time to move on. For some reason I just felt that Campbell wanted to really leave a legacy here. More Mount Union than what he did. If it was another season or three, then he left, I would be fine. I knew we would never have him for a Frank Beamer type tenure. He would have been top of the MAC salary wise, and left after actually accomplishing something other than tragic on field meltdowns. We have good talent on this team I expect anyone to win the next two years, but then be ready, because the next coach will be gone in a snap. Is it just me, but until 15 ish years ago the P5 schools sorta hired from within their tier, it's only been more recently where they have raided any G5 school with a coach who has a 6 win season on their resume.
Does seem to be that way now more so than before. Instant winning/gratification is expected no doubt (except maybe at ISU...). Appears MOB is faced with a bona fide full press coaching search.
By the way, if anyone ever tries to nominate Mr. Campbell for the Rockets HOF can someone please lead the March over to Savage with pitchforks and tar and feathers.

When Pinkel left I didn't feel too bad because felt that he had done about all he was capable of doing for Toledo and Toledo had done about all it could do for Pinkel so it was a good time for them to part. I also immediately voiced support for Amstutz to replace him because the program was in very good shape and at that time we needed continuity not a new direction. That worked out well at least for a few years as long as Pinkel's players who had some discipline were still around and Spence was OC and then Gradkowski stepped in although even then some of those defenses were getting to be horrible. Pinkel poached a few recruits like Brad Smith but I was never too upset about that because Stutz and Spence brought in Gradkowski. Of course Missouri needed to be recruiting at a higher level than most of Pinkel's Toledo 2001 class anyway whereas it appear that Toledo tentative 2015 class evidently looked to be head and shoulders above anything ISU had lined up so the poaching will be a lot, lot worse this time about----bye, bye depth.
