Seems the new home for The UAB Radio Network is 99.5 FM Nash Icon
http://995nashicon.listenernetwork.com/Contest/DWEENH

I was wondering the same thing. Was it the Whitney Death thing? I'm sure a few people on here will be happy.

So will football be broadcast as well?
Its still the same company, just a different station in the cluster.
Sounds fine to me. If 99.5 is going to be our new station what about Samford as they were carried by 99.5 after Bama left them?

Samford Sports Radio is on 91.1 WSVU, Samford Jazz Radio Station. Has been on there for a few years now.
I've heard Samford fb games on 99.5 the past couple of yrs

Not according to Samford's Athletics website.

Football/Men's Basketball: 99.5 FM The Vibe (Nash Icon)
Women's Basketball/Baseball: 91.1 FM WVSU
Inside Samford Sports: 100.5 FM JOX2

Then again, UAB's website still lists 107.7 FM as the flagship station.
What is the signal strength of 99.5 compared to 107.7? Does either have to power down during the night (or is that only for AM stations)?

Here's a map of signal coverage for 99.5

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/patg?id=WZRR-FM

Coverage area is pretty similar to 107.7 but maybe shifted a little more to the north and west relative to 107.7.

In any event, the ultimate goal should be to expand the network to get stations in the Huntsville/Decatur region as well as Montgomery and Mobile. Several years ago we seemed to be making progress in expanding to new areas of the state but I think we have regressed in last few years.
I'll say this for coverage, 99.5 is clear as a bell in Clanton and I always have trouble with 107.7.
I never have any trouble hearing 99.5. I'm excited.
Where is the news of a new flagship station coming from? I can find no reference to any changes online. It seems odd that no public announcement is out there with just over a week before the season opener.

Thanks. Still odd there has been no public update...the UAB website still even lists 107.7.
they are a country station right? I guess we have to now worry about Kenny Rogers dying.

I'm ashamed to say I had the same thought (I was thinking of Willie Nelson though).

Still strange that there's been no official announcement but seems to be pretty par for the course for UAB admin of no announcements till very late in the game then again it could be that there's no official announcement due to unsigned contracts which also seem par for the course of late too w/ current admin ???
Also, for anyone reading this and they still need season tickets. Nash Icon is giving away 10 pairs of tickets to fans. The contest ends on the 8th at midnight.

You can sign up via their website. I know it hurts my odds of winning, but I love most of you.
99.5 is now Hula 99.5 - All Hawaiian music all the time.
