UAB coach Bill Clark weathers seasons without team, games

Quote:He said an NCAA official told him somebody within Conference USA, where the league and coaches have otherwise been supportive, actually complained that UAB was getting an edge. There's no mercy on the recruiting trail.

We there's at least one crybaby USA fan I know of. But nobody in-conference. 03-lol

Well the rug was ripped out from under Coach Clark and UAB so I'll take any edge we can get.
Clark is a class act, I wish him nothing but the best. UAB got an absolute gem when they hired him.04-bow
I shed no tear for any advantage we get after all the adversity we have endured. No other program in the country has had to go through what we did. SMU and Marshall were different deals.
Just for fun, any guesses on which school? My guess would be Southern Miss since UAB and USM recruit in the same geographic area.
My guess would be La Tech, since they seem to whine about most anything.

A lot of teams benefited when the cabal of trustees shut down UAB football.
I wonder if the CUSA coach that complained about this happened to have poached any of our players.

Attalla, I agree with you 100%. No other team has lived with their own BOT's foot on its throat for so long and had to rebuild a major sports team, due to the corrupt actions of of those who are supposed to serve the institutions best interest.

There was a silver lining. From all of the coverage of UAB as football, as it was shut down and brought back, we have become a national name. Coach Clark was already able to bring in a few impact players last year, and now we able to recruit from a much larger base.

Of course the other CUSA coaches are going to be upset that we are getting a lot of good players, who have an extra year to get bigger and stronger, but some of these players weren't even looking at a CUSA schools and are willing to give UAB a shot because of the story and the coaching leadership.

If some of the coaches are concerned about the number of scholarships, they shouldn't be vocal about it. Some of our players are enrolled on their teams; we didn't have a full recruiting class this year, only taking 15 players, and we will only take 5 extra players next year.
So is this math correct:

15 on scholarship currently
15 mid year signings this year
30 regular signings this year
25 regular signings next year

That would give us 85 players and put us at the limit. The biggest break we would be getting is the 45 we are allowed to sign between now and February if I'm reading this correctly.
I think you are basically correct.

We do have some walkons that may earn a scholarship.

Around 18 or so of them right now I believe to give us about 33 or so players on campus.
My guess is if we come back competitive, there will be a whole lot of whining publicly within CUSA.

Yep. That'd be my guess.

That's fine. My rebuttal will be to ask them how they enjoyed their '15 and '16 seasons.

I can live with that. It's looking more and more like this may have been the best thing for UAB football in the future. It's also looking more and more like Clark may be assembling one of the best rosters we've ever had.

Edge

Funny
It is unlikely that UAB 2017 will be as competitive as UAB 2015 would have been ... or the 2016 and 2017 that would have followed, so that's a dumb thing to complain about.

They can go after their own "edge" if they like. Just ask their president to shutter the football team for a couple of years. UAB won't complain.

At which point it will be too late to do anything about.
I could give a rip whether our peers think it's fair or not after the hell we've been through. I hope this team comes out of the gate swinging in 2017.
Screw the whiners.
