How lucky UT is with this QB. Once a 4 star athlete from the state of Florida, and it shows. Alabama's lost ( i Believe he would have been their QB this year if he had stay), UT gain. I wanted him at QB all along last year after competing with Woodside in spring ball. This is not taking anything away from Woodside, as he prove himself as a capable QB last year. But, a transfer coming in from a school like Alabama is saying a lot. The young man wanted a chance to excel, and he has done just that. I hope he is able to come back next year, if not UT is in good hands with Woodside, Julian, Guadagni, and Jalen Reese waiting in the wings.
Ely would have graduated. He had to sit a year after transferring to Toledo if I am correct...
2010 RS
2011 Fr
2012 S0
2013 TR.RS
2014 RS Jr.
2015 RS Sr.
not if he had blown out his acl and shoulder his last yr. got an ncaa hardship waiver (being a bama kid that waited his turn). and then, showed up in 2015.

actually, he made a good move to UT. Bama is great but for young college kids growing up into mature athletes it's as much about right place right time as what place for your development.

This year would have been his last (5th) year at Bama. His freshman year was 2011, not 2010. He is petitioning the NCAA to say that he sat out 2010 due to an injury so that he can get a 6th yr. Anyone here anything about that recently?

word is that NCAA is waiting on Alabama to respond to the situation.
Common Nick! Help us out!!!
Ely seems to be focused, highly skilled, a great leader, and supremely confident. In that regard he is like Bret Favre. In any given game you might get 5 TDs, or 3 interceptions, or both, but no one can overlook you or take you lightly. I am not saying Ely will be an NFL QB; I am just comparing their attitude and competitiveness.

The NCAA will nor rule on a request until the season is over.
I would add that Phillip Ely's work ethic is second to along with his sense of team. He has been doing everything he can do to support his team, whether he's on the field or on the bench rehabbing/sitting out. I recall Coach Campbell stating that Phillip was the best scout team QB he had ever seen during the year he has to sit out.
