One less team competing with us for an at large bid! 02-13-banana
Everybody praised Larry Brown for the great job he did turning around the SMU program. (We even almost lost William Lee to them.) I guess we now know that he was cutting corners.

Larry Brown has been cutting corners for 30 years. I knew when he was hired he would be dirty. Just surprised that the NCAA didn't waste much time in getting him.

The fact that Larry Brown is John Calipari's mentor should tell you all you need to know about Brown.
The thing that gets me is that no one was surprised about the NCAA violations except Brown. It's just like Donnie Tyndall... there's no way you turn a program like USM around the way he did without violations.
Larry Brown to Memphis!

They interviewed him for the job in 1979 when he was 38 years old, but ultimately decided to go with Dana Kirk. 03-lmfao

I guess they got more cheating for their buck, but less longevity.
I really wanted SMU in the round of 32 last year. I feel we would have had a much better shot against them. They got hosed on that goal-tending call
It shouldn't be a shock. Had to know something improper was going on when you turn a perennial RPI sub 250-300 team into a Top 25 program nearly overnight. SMU hopefully enjoyed their little time in the sun because this will probably be the mark of a downward trend.

Me too. I was looking forward to that match up!
SMU Golf got hit as well. They won the NCAA's last year and Byrson DeChambeau won both the individual title and the US Amateur.
Larry Brown did what he has done at every college he has coached - cheated and got the team on probation.

What's should surprise no one is it's SMU the only university that ever got the death penalty for cheating & being blatant about it

Actually that was football. The University of Southwestern Louisiana was the only basketball team to ever receive the death penalty.

The NCAA's very first action was to give Kentucky basketball the death penalty, back in 1952 (when Junior's father was coaching football there).
Didn't know NCAA had ever given the death penalty to anything other than SMU fb but I posted than more in jest due to it being SMU (probably should've used light blue font)
Kentucky was given a one year death penalty in basketball
UAB was given a two year death penalty in Football for doing everything right and playing by the rules while schools close by make what SMU Football did look like child's play and wins Championships.
Facts: Auburn has a recruit (Purifoy) who is not been approved by the NCAA clearing house.

Auburn had the head associate head coach who was found to guilty of numerous violations under Pearl at UT. Who suddenly resigned at Auburn to take a better opportunity. Which turned out to be working for his brother for one Year in the Canadian d-league - that is the development league for the CBL. Quit a 200 K job for one where the league averages under 50 k.

Reed has been kicked out of school for the fall,

Basketball (as well as football players) took all their classes in a major that Athletics paid to keep open

The rest is all rumor primarily from Auburn boards.

Purifoy is under review for being unable to verify that he was actually the person who took numerous on line courses after returned to Alabama from failing to graduate from Hargrove

That the director of compliance and Pearl had a verbal altercation/ .major disagreement.

Reed is being suspended for academic improprieties (not GPA)

That Auburn is interpreting the rules to allow a pickup game with incoming recruits at the arena with fans invited to watch. Allow six managers to scrimmage with the maximum four players

Just wondering when will Pearl join Larry

They fired the baseball coach to show the NCAA they were serious about cleaning things up to head off any basketball problems (light blue font)
