I thought it would be interesting to re-visit those recordings from 20-21 months ago. Especially why they couldn't offer a 5 year deal, & the people that "had to be called": PBJ & Finis.

Would be interested in comments about if anything has changed or not & if these roadblocks are the cause of the current difficulties in the new contract.

For reference, here is the article & recordings again: https://twitter.com/Joey35209/status/640739314670956548
Did the public disclosure of these recordings have any discernible impact on Watts, the BOT, or any other person(s) with power/authority over UAB?
Not really. It's like they didn't matter. However, given the fact they're doing this again, I think we need to have Scarbinsky revisit these in a column.

That's my impression, as well. Yet I saw a bunch of comments saying "BOOM!" when these transcripts came out; unclear what that was about.

He has been stalwart throughout this ordeal.
Carr: Because we think that the fourth year could be the winning edge of getting the guy that we really want. It could make the difference. It could make all the difference in the world. ...

Ealy: To the board, I don't know that the salary is an issue.

Mackin: The money's not.

Ealy: I think that's more of a UAB conversation. You're looking at 450, 475 after negotiations.

It sounded like the salary is a UAB issue according to ealy & Mackin.

In the real world where your actions have the potential for repercussions, those transcripts would have meant something, hence the "Boom!" commentary.

In fanciful UA System land, where you aren't held accountable to anyone or anything and there's no system of checks and balances or transparency in place, it's just another Tuesday.
They simply don't care what anyone thinks. They think they are untouchable.

Until proven otherwise, they pretty much are.
