I guess you can take it as a continuation of the reported trend of declining interest overall - but for whoever may have looked in on the game last night in Charlotte between UNC and USC, was anyone else surprised that this match-up would have 20,000 empty seats?

Took me by surprise when they showed the stadium and that was also the comment in the Charlotte Observer this morning.

Given the location and the match-up, I would have thought this would have been a tough ticket in Charlotte.
Both teams are coming off mediocre years, and South Carolina is staring down the barrel of another mediocre year. North Carolina should compete in the ACC, but I don't get the sense people are terribly jazzed about the football team of late.

UNCheat shouldn't be playing FB but that is another story 03-banghead03-hissyfit
The game had lots of buzz and the traffic here was pretty bad. I was very surprised when I turned on the game. I think the tickets were just too expansive
Football games in eprson are mroe about the tailgating.

Football games on television are over-analyzed, over-commercialized and pretty much over-hyped.

I ended up watching US Open tennis last night, because none of those games could hold my attention for very long.
The Tech OSU game showed just how far Beamer has slipped away. With the weight loss he counteracts the notion of his channeling Pop Warner and those shot putt passes from both the Texas Tech washout and that string bean from Christianburg at qb to some extent. But there's no denying; it's there! With all the money spent there and all those hayseeds in the stands; when will they wake up? That new AD needs to make the break with the past. They might start by visiting a few JC's here in SoCal where there are a host of qb's who have forsaken the shot putt pass for the spiral deep down field.

Upper deck tickets $70, I live in the Charlotte area and have not rooting interest for either team, but I have attended several of these type of games in the past. I wouldn't pay that much for this match up.

You can still get upper deck seats for Panthers games for $50, or you could two seasons ago when I went to my last Panthers' game. I'll go see the Panthers play this year instead of seeing the Battle of Carolina.
How do you have a "big time" program with no real backup QB???

I thought only us little guys had that problem :>)

They were doing well until Brewer got injured so the initial game plan was fine.

This was the issue. Not that they were going to have a chance to win with a backup QB but the backup at a BCS school has to be better than that. Think they said on the telecast that almost all schools recruited him as an athlete as opposed to a QB so they didn't have a good backup after Brewer. All other QBs on their roster appear to be Freshmen (not sure if redshirt or not) and only 14 passes thrown by people not named Brewer last year so no experience on the team.
The best offense VT has ever had was when Randall was qb. Even when Vick was back there, it was a one trick pony.

Last yr they caught OSU with a new qb and a inexperienced oline, no such luck this time.

That said i was watching the US Open on espn 2, flipping to VT-OSU during breaks.

Poor Isner. If the guy could do anything but serve, he could be so good. Gotta be rough to lose 1 time on your serve in a whole match and lose in 3 straight sets.
The second TD Tech had looked like it was straight out of our playbook. QB and everyone rolls right and the TE sneaks to the back left of the endzone and is wide open. Looked exactly like our play against Nova last year.

The weight loss is due in part to throat surgery he had last year.
Tech still has a perfect record vs. #1 teams. The game atmosphere in Blacksburg is great and they have been very good for a long time, just never quite as good as their fans think...
Urban Meyer praised it as one of the best in college football.

Years ago I noticed that Beamer has a large flap repair on his throat to cover what was obviously a big surgery. I hope this wasn't a recurrence of that issue. There's no question that Frank Beamer was a good player on good teams at VPI. He has won a ton of games over many years. He's been a very good coach. But this fining players for miscues mess that was just exposed and this extended fiasco at qb point directly to the obvious. He has run his course. He's no different than any of the others in a long list of coaches whose time to step down has arrived. Am I wrong in remembering that Logan Thomas was not recruited as a qb?

I believe the flap is from a type of skin graft from a fire injury as a child/younger person.
That is correct.

The problem with VT is the fanbase, for some odd reason they think they are Alabama, FSU or even Ohio State, yet I am hard pressed to come up with even 5 significant wins in that programs history.

Obviously last yrs win against OSU is one, and a few yrs ago they won a BCS bowl, but I can't really think of many more.

+1 I can't stand Tech fans.
