As any Bama fan can attest, championships are "in the eye of the beholder". (AU provided championship rings for the year they went undefeated - and uninvited - to the BCS NC game.)

I'm not sure, but I think we did also in 2011.
To me the regular season championship is a greater accomplishment than winning the conference championship. To be regular season champions, you have to have sustained excellence. To win the conference championship, you have to get hot for a few days (and maybe have home court advantage.)

We cut down the nets and got rings in our regular season championship year.

That's fine. Let them crow about the regular season title and even hang a banner if it suits them. Winning a regular season title is absolutely to be celebrated. We celebrated when we did it.
With the format the way it is, they get to claim a conference championship, we get to claim a conference championship, and neither of us is wrong.
I'd still rather win the one that sends me dancing, though, and I bet an honest Tech fan would, too.

I would rather the regular season champions be the one that got the automatic bid, but college basketball has to justify the conference tourneys,
other than a reason to make money.

Our team got rings the year under Anderson when the regular season ended in like a four way tie. It's ok, it does not change the result of the conference tournament or who went to the NCAA.

It's too bad being a regular season champ doesn't really account for much more than bragging rights if you don't win the conference tournament or get an at large bid. A team able to accomplish a feat like that deserves to be in the tournament, but I really feel like the tournaments are more central to college basketball and having those automatic bids for grabs makes things a whole lot more interesting.

Maybe if your RPI doesn't blow chunks a regular season conference championship will propel you to the NCAA tournament.
