Totally agree, even though I think a 2016 return is critical. Strike while the iron is hot! Also, nice to know Ingram has been talking to Nike about upping UAB's profile...
We can't build facilities yesterday but we do need to get started soon so recruits, potential investors (like NIKE) and fans can actually see concrete progress. When FBHC Clark recruited for 2014, I'm sure he repeated to recruits the promises of new facilities he was made when he was signed. All they got was termination. Now UAB must prove it means business over the next couple of years by actually getting something started. "One of these days" must be immediate in intent.
That is one of the best articles I have ever read about how to market UAB Athletics. The marketing dept. needs to staple this article on every board in their office and use it as a basis for marketing period.

Agreed!! But you can market what you hope to build for only so long. At some point, you have to actually "put up or shut up". A lot of folks are waiting to see signs of progress that are not just more promises. At what point in personal relationships does "long engagement" become "lack of commitment"? UAB football fans are "the enquiring minds that want to know".

Agreed.

It's not imperative to play an FBS schedule in 2016 -- although, if any way possible, that should obviously be the goal -- but playing some real, live, actual football games against somebody is a must.
We can start by removing that stupid f$&@ing plastic dragon from the front of Bartow. I mean, really?

UAB Athletics has a marketing department?

+1
I think all of the points are very sound, and the general sentiment of striking while the iron is hot is something I want to see capitalized on as soon as possible. As the piece stated, there are some business principles that need to be adhered but a lot of this boils down to the athletic director getting out there now.

This is Ingram's time to shine. Reading that he's talking with Nike is big, but I'm looking forward to much more. As far as athletic marketing is concerned, who knows what is going on there. There are probably folks that have been set on doing things from day one but are limited in what they can accomplish for various reasons. It'd be pretty ironic if all the secured PR firms ultimately ended up working to promote athletics, though.
2015 - no one expects a team this year
2016 - a team would get attention, but no one would expect great results- a free pass season.
2017 - who are you again? It's been three years since we last talked.
All of those would require some modicum of competence from UAB's leadership. I think it's been well established that the turd I just dropped has more leadership ability than the UAB administration.
I agree. While I am not privy to said turd I can only assume you are 100% correct based on the cluster**** of leadership or lack there of I have witnessed in the past.
