AU and UA don't take chances on "2* and 3* high school players" because they don't HAVE TO. In Feb.2015, AU, UA and MS State each signed 5 Alabama public school players. Only South Car. of the remaining 11 SEC schools signed any - 2 to be exact. That means that those 4 SEC schools signed 17 of the 43 Alabama public high school D1 signees last Feb. while the other TEN SEC schools signed ZERO - NONE from Alabama public schools. Alabama as a "hotbed" of top quality college recruits is a thing of fond memory, not present fact.

The main state signee schools were Jax State, UNA, UWA, and the HBCUs who signed them by the dozens. UAB (in 2014), Troy and USA have each signed about the same number as UA and AU in Alabama.

Alabama's decline in state public school funding since 2008 is having its effect on athletics as well as academics (the 2015-2016 SETF is still substantially less than the SETF of 2008-2009).
