Ain't nobody trying to hear this 01-scout
Ingram makes it sound like this advice is coming directly from C-USA officials.
Sure as long as we have broken ground and building our OCS in the meantime.

+1 Unless the stadium is being constructed in that duration, pushing the re-start out to 2017 is a mistake.

However, if the decision is UAB's to make, I believe Coach Clark should make that call.

Would guys on campus now get to sit out two years without losing eligibility?
I signed a pledge form contingent on football being reinstated by January 1 2016. Not some undetermined date in the far future. I seem to recall some pumpkinheaded bastard saying, "You can't run a university based on promises."
If you have not seen this thread yet, you need to. I feel better.

No Ideally things would have been handled in proper order before the shutdown. Donors contacted, marketing, facilities constructed and coaches secured to long term deals. Unfortunately UAB decided to do everything bass ackwards and we're left with this mess. No Mark we don't live in an ideal world and sometimes we have to suck it up and push through. 2017 and all the momentum we've built over the last 6 months will be lost. Just put on your big boy britches and get this thing up and running ASAP
Just my opinion, but if we're not playing ANY football in 2015 and 2016, I don't see recruits coming in. They want to play football games, not practice and wait for 2 years. Maybe I'm just being greedy wanting it back in 2016 tho...
I think the excitement will be long gone waiting 2 years. the way it seems now... just hearing it may be 2017 is deflating.
I disagree. If anything, there will be an anticipation so great that most of would have a mental breakdown. I wouldn't have an issue with 2017 if you want the program brought back correctly.
I hope you are correct BamaScorpio69, however I just dont think people will be jumping all over ticket sales if its announced that it will be back in 2017. Mentally, we had already accepted that 2015 would be UABFootballFree, not sure how most will take a 2016 UABFootballFree.
I hope Coach Clark knows he is in a position of strength in terms of public opinion, and I assume that comes with the support of the movers and shakers (the business leaders). We will hopefully hear soon (once Coach Clark signs the contract) what his plan is. If Coach Clark says we have a strategy to play in 2016 and be competitive, AD Ingram and Watts will not have much standing to say otherwise. Considering that we will likely lose more C*USA funds for every year we don't have football, that is another push in our favor that will undermine Watts.
I don't see why it can't come back in 2016. If we load up on Jucos plus the guys that are all ready here can start preparing (lifting weights, conditioning, etc.,) we can filed a competitive team. Here's the thing whether you start in 2016 or 2017 there will be startup bumps. For me personally I'd rather get them out of the way in 2016 and look for improvement in the following year. Basically if you're going to take your lumps waiting another year doesn't change that.
Waiting until 2017 will push us ever closer to startup status. 2016 would allow more of a continuum. Maybe 2017 as a full CUSA member, but 2016 could be the actual comeback year with FCS and FBS games - like ODU over the past couple of years. If 2017 is the year (but I see no good reason why it shouldn't be 2016) visible progress will need to be made to keep momentum and provide confidence that its actually going to happen. I still don't trust Watts or the BOT...

Agree, If we sign JUCO this year (Dec 2015) they will be coming off scholarship just in time to recruit new players to our new facilities.
The most important thing is getting a team on the field then after that we can start the process of becoming a powerhouse. But right now we have no team and whether we go 0-10 or 10-0 the first season back the most important aspect is having guys on the field period.

This. Why are we all forgetting there are 30+ scholarship athletes hanging out? Is Shaq Jones (10 starts last year) gonna just sit around for two years?

I'm for playing a 2016 schedule made up of FCS and G5 teams (with maybe 1 P5 opponent).

Here's how Old Dominon did it in 2013: http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-13/conf-...hedule.php
We're playing in 2016. ZERO chance Clark would work his ass off for 2 years trying to get guys to buy in to not playing for a year. He'll find players and we will be a lot more competitive then the VOCAL MAJORITY thinks. There are thousands of 1, 2, and 3 stars just waiting to prove they are undervalued. Not to mention, plenty of JUCOS wanting a 2nd chance. 2017 talk from Mark and others is just a way to take pressure of the athletic department and administration. Bill Clark doesn't give a damn about their pressure. He wants to play and will get us on the field in 2016 even if it's on the sod-less intramural fields.
I want to see what Clark says and if he says 2017 so be it otherwise we raise hell. I sent out the question and will see what the response is from Deep Throat.
