So...any chance we can go ahead and get Blaze back on our license plates while we wait for an OCS?
I canceled my UAB License plate a month too soon... Guess it will take a break in 2015 too and I'll have it back in 2016.
That will give the state a chance to restore BLAZE on the tag.
Everyone needs to start writing the NAS to get them to change the tag back. Their excuse for dropping Blaze was BS in the first place. They might try to say they can't change it before the 5 year cycle is up, but I bet that is not true.
Where is the truth about the license plates ?

The scuttlebutt from the NAS was that 30+ designs were submitted, and all rejected by the state.

The State license plate dept. spokesperson said that UAB turned in 3 designs that were so bad that the License dept. called UAB asking if they needed artistic help.

Was Ray-Ray or a minion the problem (Khan, Lucas or Bruno)?

UAB has a graphic design program full of students, and that has graduated hundreds of alumni.

Imagine the publicity and fundraising that they would generate if they had a contest for a new design.

Too novel of a concept.

BS: Three NAS board members told me it was all Watts' idea/edict.

When my new plate came in the mail April I knew something was wrong, but I had no idea how wrong.

Luckily the sent the month and year stickers were sent separately from the plate so I simply stuck the stickers on my old Blaze plates and went on about my business. Watts' plate is somewhere in my basement, probably gathering mouse droppings.
Yeah, but if you get stopped and they notice you'll get a bonus ticket.

We need to press the NAS to fix this. I know from talking to the receptionist up front that they have heard it very often. I would bet that UAB tag renewals are down significantly.

I don't know where they used to be, but I heard very recently there are only about 2700-2800 people with them in the state, compared to around 100,000 for Tuscaloosa.

Really? I feel like I see them all the time.

That's what was said in an open forum presentation by one of the candidates for VP of Enrollment Management a few weeks back. Maybe he meant 20k (or I misheard him?). I'm pretty sure he said under 3k, though, because his point was that we needed to sell a heck of a lot more of them.
I actually found the link to the latest published statistics. It's not very pretty for us...

Alabama Registration Statistics

UAT has over 102k, we have 2700. We have less than JSU and Troy :-( That's crazy considering that we have higher enrollment than both (not counting all the online folks from Troy)

Yep, they need to fix it, but I doubt anything will happen until Wes Smith is out on his butt and or Watts is shown the door so Wes has a new President to suck up to.

I'm not worried - I have the right alpha/numeric designation on my plate, I recently paid for its renewal, it has the current stickers ("April" & "2016" on the plate, and I seriously doubt whether cops can keep track of which edition of each of the almost 100 specialized plates which Alabama offers is the correct one at any one time. Especially since some of them are changing all of the time. On top of that I doubt seriously that they care.

Besides, I'm a Blazer fan and we are used to taking risks or we would have never won the fight with Watts. I am not accustom to taking what life hands out with without question; that's not my style and it' not yours either. It is well worth the risk to have Blaze instead of that UGLY plate on my car.

I used the old design for a year instead of the new ugly ones. I was told you can use the old one as long as it is in good shape and can be read.
Yep, I just put the current year stickers on my old plate.

Yep. Same here after I used the new one for a year. When I put two and two together early after the shut down I pulled out the old, better one and put it back on in March.

I did put the "You don't know what you don't know" sticker over the "Knowledge that will change your world" in the mean time.
The designs are good for 5 years & the responsibility of the Board of Trustees according to the applicable law I researched.

And when they say "the board of trustees" that just means the university itself. these don't go before the board, but I guarantee that the "knowledge that will change your world" design was mandated by UAB Media Relations, who has spearheaded that campaign.
