Per my NCAA rules guru.
The sport sponsorship issue may be problematic. Have to play 16 sports and have to have at least six be male sports. Current count (sans football, rifle, bowling) is 15 with five being male.
He interprets it as follows:
UAB can restore as full FBS in 2016 as long as the sport sponsorship numbers are OK.
One of rifle and bowling needs to be back in 2015-16 to meet the 16 sport requirement.
Rifle is technically a co-ed sport and thinks the NCAA might wink and nod if rifle is restored for 2015-16 and allow it to count as a male sport to hit the target of six male.
Believes that if the sport count is off, that UAB gets a letter of warning about non-compliance for 15-16 but all is golden as long as everything else complies for the next nine years.
