Says Watts wants to bring it back but has to run it through the board
And the board fully supports Watts and his vision for the university, so we're all set! Riiiiiiight?
I thought this was Watts decision

Who said it?
They said Watts is meeting with BOT members today. Don't know why Tony Kurre would be the first person told.
If true, there were rumblings recently of a split on the BOT correct? Supposedly about 3 opposed returning football but others were in favor?

Even so why is the football decision now resting with BOT when before both Watts and BOT claimed it was Watts decision alone?
Tony Kurre says he has a source.
I don't trust Watts or the BOT!!!! I'll believe it when my butt is sitting in Legion Field watching the Blazers!!!

Is this meeting open. They would have to vote right?
Open meeting laws?????
BOT believes their meetings don't have to be public if enough members are absent.
Honestly, if they come to a final decision today either way, I hope they announce it. Even if it's after marathon meetings with the board and announced at 11pm. Otherwise the next two to three days are going to be stupid nuts.
Texts on burner phones don't count as meetings.
If the decision is made by the BOT without being open then we have some serious ammo for reform

Well, legally, they are correct. It's only officially a meeting if a quorum is present. Is there any reason to think that if he "has to run it by the Board" that he's talking to more than 3 trustees?

For their own sakes, would it be better for the other 9 trustees to elbow their way into this or to stay as far away as possible?

Well, given that the board isn't supposed to be involved in this at all (which is the real issue, not the sunshine laws), probably stay away.
It's a big issue for UAB. Of course Watts would consult the Board. That doesn't mean they're voting on it. He has a duty and an obligation to let them know what is going on. Will those with a fetish for the intricacies of Open Meeting Laws, which are vague and meaningless in the first place, please focus on the decision versus the process?
After having 10-15 minutes to stew on it and think about it, I think this is good news. Disclaimer: I have zero inside information. I get the feeling, though, that this was an intentional leak to soften the ground and get Ray Ray off the hook. Now it's Bryant, St. John, and Espy who are backed into the corner. Cautiously optimistic now.
Thank you, Jox this is actually a genius move by whoever leaked it if it is true. This puts the spotlight on the BOT. Like the Wizard of Oz when they pull back the curtain.
