No real surprise here. I expect CUSA to keep UAB for one more year so that UAB is not scrambling to find a conference next school year. After that, if football is not reinstated, UAB will not be in CUSA.

As expected.

The elimination of football was contrary to the vision established by the conference before all this even started. I think it's safe to guess that they hate to do it, especially when you can reasonably expect the guys to make it to the NCAA tournament some more, but you can't allow a school to straight up break the rules.

Also, the smug statements by Dr. Watts following his decision probably didn't make the conference executives to happy.

UAB and its fans will never know for sure how much of the C-USA decision will be wrought by their impatience with a school that has no control of its own programs. It has been demonstrated that all important UAB decisions are made by the Crimson BOT 60 miles to the west, not by any administration authorities in B'ham. This has included coaching hires, facility improvements and stadium decisions. I don't know of any university in America that has been forced into this impossible position.

A lot of lost revenue not included in the dipshit I mean Carr report but who cares when you knew the outcome before you began?

Watts declined to meet with the C-USA Commissioner twice when he was in town for the C-USA Tournament...even to the point that he stood him up when Banowsky was on campus.

Perhaps Watts' behavior was because he had not been briefed by his bosses on the BOT on what he would be allowed to say or to agree to do.

Doubtful. "Arrogant, self-centered ass" is Ray Watts' natural state.

It's not just message-board rhetoric: everyone who comes in contact with Ray Watts (with two exceptions, Smithers and Shirls) absolutely despises him. Even his dog, Cuddles, hates him.

The only reason we're getting this tiny sliver of a chance from CUSA is the CUSA presidents' unwillingness to give Ray Watts any help in his insane policy of destruction.

I seriously doubt we will drop to a lower conference given the list of AD's that just came out. If we hire any of those 3, they will have been guaranteed that we are moving up. All the pieces are falling in to place to move in to a better conference or for the entire athletics department to fall a part. There isn't much middle ground.

Didn't know that either. Further proves my point. Either he is holding a great conference card or he is burning this place down.

Watts wanted C-USA to kick out UAB so that UAB didn't have to pay an exit fee.

Conference USA wasn't buying it...and decided to wait until June to make a call because by then, UAB would be in violation of the bylaws anyway and would be forced to pay an exit fee.

However, because C-USA has waited this long, there are too many scheduling issues to be addressed to cut UAB out in a month...so they'll give UAB a transition year.

My money's on the latter being closer in the long run than the former

I don't buy for a second that we have a move up wired. How can anyone make a guarantee that UAB will be in any conference, let alone one that is "a move up" without that conference meeting with regard to that? I have no reason to believe that the AAC, the A-10, or the MVC, the most popular choices for a conference move that would be called a move up, would invite UAB.

Our best option is to fight our way back to football and stay in C-USA. Failing that, if we are very fortunate, we *might* get an invite from the MVC, but they would have to invite another school as well for scheduling purposes, split the not very large pie two more ways, and add a lot of extra travel expense to do it.

Failing that it's the Sun Belt or the A-Sun or something, and as you said, that leads to disaster for the UAB athletic department.

Even a move to the MVC or A-10 is a money loser for UAB.

BTW does anyone really believe we will draw more for Loyola and Drake than FIU or FAU?

Reality is attendance will be based on how good we are. I also keep reading about Wichita State might be ready to leave the Valley. There goes your marquee team. At least there is UNI. I also remember Bradley was good back in the day.

Can someone just link the other thread than to hash out this **** again where everybody states their sides and then others jumps in calling those they don't Agree with BOT plants and abiders and abettors.

I still don't get why some are trashing the MVC when it or the A10 is the best option if we get booted from CUSA. They still haven't named a better option other than staying in CUSA, even if that isn't an option.
