But there is news that relates to the MAC, so I decided to start this thread and post these links anyway.
The conference commissioner says that in the future, MAC championships won't be played in Indiana unless the law is changed. If there's no change, conference meetings won't be held in the Hoosier state either. Here's a link to that story.

And in the short term, looks like Buffalo's softball and women's tennis squads (scheduled to play at Ball State this weekend) won't be traveling to Muncie. Here's a link to the University of Buffalo's student newspaper.

When the NCAA, NFL, the NBA and NASCAR along with Wal-Mart are lined up against this law, it's time for reconsideration by law makers.
I think some changes have been made to the bill. I don't know why the MAC would have an event in Indianapolis anyway.
As far as that bill goes, I don't know all the details, but I don't think a small business should be required by law to accept hire to service an event if they do not want to do so, regardless of the reason.

Against the wishes of the governor and the legislature, it looks like they will have to actually abide by the wants and needs of the constituents and make some modifications to the bill. Those changes haven't been made yet, but will be made soon. Otherwise, good luck getting reelected (since that is the most goal for a politician).
In terms of events in Indy, what if Ball State wanted to host the conference's gymnastics or swimming or (insert sport here) championship? The bid wouldn't even be reviewed based on the MAC's statement. Same goes for the football or basketball championships if they were to ever move from Detroit and Cleveland and Indy wanted to place a bid for either sport.
As for your last point, the other religious freedom laws are better constructed in other states because they allow for religious freedom, but include provisions that outlaw discrimination based on your religious beliefs. Without those provisions, the door is left open to the potential of reverting back to Jim Crow-like laws (If you're gay, you can only eat at these places or you can only get your roof fixed by this contractor, etc).

Because it's close by and the NCAA is located there. At or near the HQ, the NCAA hosts lots of college events involving schools and conferences from all over the country.

Offer services to the public, yes. But required to service every customer who requests services, I don't think so.

Used to call refusal to serve certain people "Jim Crow".
I guess the MAC won't have any events in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Quatar, etc.... because they will actually KILL people for being gay........ but then we know Christian beliefs are MUCH worse than Muslam beliefs.

Let's also forget doing business with China because of human rights violations.We can also boycott states that enforce the sovereignty of their international borders.
Btw, one of the major malls here was going to open on Easter. The outcries by employees and residents are forcing them to stay closed.

Indianapolis might not be the geographic center of the conference, but is definitely with in the conference's footprint.

Because by snubbing an institution that most likely opposes the bill, Buffalo is going to do good in the world?
Isolation tends to push the middle away, not towards. Buffalo made the agreement to join a conference of universities, not states. To me, Buffalo is taking an immoral stance.

I've had small businesses turn away my business. When I say "small," I mean like small shops, small service type businesses. In at least one case I can think of, it was discriminatory, though probably technically legal, I'm not sure. It wasn't anything that deprived me of basic needs so, though it hurt my feelings
, I went down the street and I got over it. I wish they had not turned away my business, but I would stand behind their right to be able to do so if they wish.
The University of New York at Buffalo can not travel to Ball St because the New York govenor has banned any of the state's funds from being spent on travel to Indiana for non essential trips. It was not the university's decision and they must adhere to Gov Cuomo's mandate.
