If one can read Mr Cosby's blog through the covetous eyes of the UA BOT, one can see exactly why UAB football was destroyed. All of the good things for UAB and Birmngham that he lists that came or could come from a successful UAB program are, unfortunately, things the "Old Guard Bourbon" aristocrats want to block coming to Jeffco, B'ham and UAB. Anything that might shift the center of the state's universe from its Tuscaloosa axis is to be destroyed if at all possible. If they can't destroy it, they want to at least stunt its growth to keep it a manageable (by them) size. In Dr Ray Watts, they found their Quizling/Petain ally for their objctives.

Having Tuscaloosa (and thus the rest of the state) control the Birmingham metro area's largest employer and financial engine is terrible for anyone who lives or earns their livelihood in this area. However, many (probably the majority of) bammers who fit this criteria happily take Tuscaloosa's side in any and every disagreement that arises due to their support of a teenage boy's sports team. I am not surprised though. Many of them put college football ahead of their own children.

And in the past have shot them as a result of a lost game. Notre Dame has what is called their "subway fan base" in New York and Bama has its "trailer park (manufactured home) fan base" in Alabama.
