Ok I was on the phone when I read that and broke out laughing. Took some splainin ' :)
"It rubs on the lotion or it gets the hose again."
I like how he answered the question on committing to FRW. Totally deflected and said he's committing to our players. Well done, Coach.

Totally agree! Though our entire Watts-football debacle is disheartening, Coach Haase and the Team have really given us some great things to be happy about!!!
Go Blazers!
Gotta say, feeling really good about Haase. Not only do I think he has what it takes-- I think he'll stick around for longer than other coaches. (which he said as much in that interview).

Nicely played.
Between this and the ABC33/40 Haase seems to already know and has accepted that we won't be in C-USA long term. We know that but it does go against the Watts narrative.
Watts placing Haase in a difficult situation.
Wish I was in his situation.

I agree. Seems like Haase knows we'll be in CUSA next year then get the boot.
I am a UAB Football guy. I would not have come to UAB without UAB Football. But I am proud that Jerod Haase is our basketball coach.

My take on it is that we had to pony up because of all the turmoil surround the university. Remember we have a legit top 50 player on the roster plus some very good supporting cast. So without this Coach might taken the first legit offer out of town and the players may have bolted as well. So the move had to made to settle that situation down.

That's just my opinion.
Haase talks about UAB basketball being at a crossroad. It's sounding more and more like a story on Bluesman Robert Johnson, as Haase too just signed a contract with the devil (Watts and the Bryant Bank BOT).

Yep. And it is a sweet pill to swallow right before Bama spends 3 to 4 times that on a new coach.

You don't sign a deal with the Devil unless you know you can beat him.

"He was in a bind, 'cos he was way behind, and he was willin' to make a deal."

Watts is panicking, so he over-paid for Haase. $1 million/year is very good money... But yet easy to buy out by a high-major program if he performs. Haase knows he has the players, the pedigree, and the story to produce a heck of a resume next year. If everything collapses under him, he still gets the ridiculous money and a few years at a Sun Belt-caliber school to climb the ladder from there.
It fits with the narrative of turning basketball into UAB's marquee sport.
Haase was very good in the interview. And, I bet he didn't need a high dollar PR firm to tell him how to say he doesn't support Ray Watts without saying that he didn't support Ray Watts.

I don't believe he's ready to sign anything. I think he has a deal in place but wants the conference stuff final before he takes uses the flaming pen.
