Just called Cantina Laredo to see if the game was going to be shown on the Jumbotron. Restaurant rep said AL Dept of Trans said they could not show the game. They are asking people to call ALDOT and complain.
Why? I have seen at least one football game being played on it before.
I thought they had specifically gotten permission from aldot to build that monstrosity in the first place
Remember what the AL stands for.
So not showing the game at uptown is now a board of trustees conspiracy?

The ALDOT director Cooper was more than willing to punish Rep Holtzclaw by halting all road projects in his district after he paid for a billboard critical of Bentley raising taxes. I can imagine spiteful acts like this don't get a second thought if he is willing to actually halt road construction over a political squabble.

I would say it could be a traffic concern, but I have seen at least one football game from the SEC Network playing on it before.

They were showing basketball last weekend during our tournament

It's as good an explanation as any, given that they've shown ballgames on it since the damn thing went up.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity or incompetence
Gotta admit, Blazer fans come by their paranoia honest.
Yeah. I was always the paranoid conspiracy theory black helicopter UAB fan.

Then they closed our football.
If shutting down the broadcast on the uptown big screen is all they've got left, then I'm not worried.
I've always had my misgivings about the video board facing the interstate, especially as it can be viewed while rounding the Hwy 31 curve coming into downtown. It seems to me that the board could/should be (is?) two-sided anyway with the other side facing away from the interstate and that each side should be able to be switched off.

And I believe there were some issues when they showed the UAB game on Thursday which is why they didn't allow it to be shown yesterday. I don't have a problem with it and eventually people will just have to get use to it. I like where it is located and it adds flair to the Uptown District.

Then I will again refer you to what Smaug did in the first place... "Remember for what AL stands?"
That works for either scenario- BoT or just plain stupidity of an AL state dept.
Well, I wish the thing hadn't been built in the first place anyway.
