With WKU's OT win on the road at Charlotte, the winner of WKU and ODU on Saturday will finish at 13-5 in the league. Should we beat FIU on Saturday, we would also finish 13-5, and, would hold the tiebreaker over the winner.

Should we lose, we will finish in the 4 spot, holding the tiebreaker over the loser. Of course, this is predicated on UTEP winning both games at home vs UNT and Rice. UTEP is up 12 in the first half vs UNT.

The Blazers are also still alive for the 2-seed (and with LT's probable win tonight, never would've been alive for the 1).

Scenario Recap:

i) UAB beats FIU, UTEP goes 2-0 this week, ODU beats WKU
Result:

1) LT
2) UTEP
3) UAB
4) ODU
5) WKU

ii) UAB beats FIU, UTEP goes 2-0 this week, WKU beats ODU

1) LT
2) UAB
3) WKU
4) UTEP
5) ODU

*UAB wins the tiebreaker among 13-5 teams by virtue of our 20-point spanking of LT at Bartow Arena. Hint, cheer for WKU on Saturday!

iii) UAB beats FIU, UTEP goes 1-1 this week, ODU beats WKU

1) LT
2) UAB
3) ODU
4) WKU
5) UTEP

iv) UAB beats FIU, UTEP goes 1-1 this week, WKU beats ODU

1) LT
2) UAB
3) WKU
4) UTEP
5) ODU

Now if we lose:

v) UAB gets F_Ued, UTEP goes 2-0 this week, ODU beats WKU

1) LT
2) UTEP
3) ODU
4) UAB
5) WKU

vi) UAB gets F_Ued, UTEP goes 2-0 this week, WKU beats ODU

1) LT
2) WKU
3) UTEP
4) UAB
5) ODU

*This is the scenario Toppers fans want.

vii) UAB gets F_Ued, UTEP goes 1-1 this week, ODU beats WKU

1) LT
2) ODU
3) UAB
4) WKU
5) UTEP

*So, it is possible for us to still get the 3-seed if we lose. But UTEP must also lose.

viii) UAB gets F_Ued, UTEP goes 1-1 this week, WKU beats ODU

1) LT
2) WKU
3) UTEP
4) UAB
5) ODU

Summary:

1) UAB gets the 2-seed no matter what with a win on Saturday vs FIU and a WKU win over ODU.

2) UAB gets the 3-seed with a win Saturday if ODU and UTEP win out.

3) UAB can still get the 3-seed with a loss Saturday, but only if WKU and UTEP also lose once more.

4) For all the bad road losses this year (including tonight), we are still the only team in 2nd-5th place that has clinched a first round bye.
OK, since you are so good with the tiebreakers, who are we going to play? 03-lmfao
I threw up before I got that far. 03-lmfao

Nobody... on the first day. 03-lmfao
Seriously though, if I had to handicap it, with one game out, I'd say:

-UNT beats UTSA
-MT beats FAU
-UAB beats FIU
-ODU beats WKU
-UTEP beats Rice
-Charlotte beats Marshall

...which would result in

1) LT
2) UTEP
3) UAB
4) ODU
5) WKU
6) UNT
7) Rice
8) MT
9) Charlotte
10) UTSA
11) FIU
12) Marshall

Check back Saturday night to see how wrong I am. 03-lol

Personally, as long as we win Saturday, I think the only downside to getting the 3 over the 2 is we don't get to wear the gold Birmingham jerseys in the semis if all higher seeds advance. I want revenge on Rice/North Texas.
I'm cheering for WKU to beat ODU and UAB wins.
A LaTech/UAB rubber match on Saturday morning for all the marbles would be pretty cool, huh?

I also want to stay away from ODU's side of the bracket. I think they will play a good tournament. A LT/ODU 1v4 matchup in the semis would also be a great game to watch.
I'd say scenario 1 is most likely. A WKU win would complete a season sweep for them of ODU on the road. That will be tough.

We're volunteering for the St Patty's Day parade in Chatt Saturday morning. If UAB is in the final we're hauling it down I-59 to make it in time for the game.

I agree...that's why I listed it first. For attendance purposes, we really don't need to fall to the 4 seed. The 4 plays at 2:30 on Thursday. We need to be in that evening session for max crowd participation.

I heard/read some where yesterday that UAB gets to pick their time slot on Thursday.

We'll know what needs to be done and can be done when our game tips tomorrow. The two games that matter to us, Rice/UTEP and WKU/ODU, will have been completed.
In the past, the home team has gotten the 6:00 slot. Don't know if that has changed.
Take care of business tomorrow, and that is where we will most likely be.

I'd say it's pretty much a done deal we'll play at 6.
Yep, unless they want 500 people there instead of 1500.

Wku is +9 vs odu
Update!

UTEP outlasts Rice, clinching a first round bye. Blazers must now win tonight to avoid the 4 seed.
As much as I would like the 2 seed, I wouldn't mind UAB winning tonight and ODU winning to get a shot at UTEP in the semis as a 2 vs 3 matchup. I like that matchup in many ways better than some of the alternative semi-final matchups.

IMO best scenario
The good news is, with an ODU win, we would not face them in the semis, no matter what happens vs FIU.
