I think that Dr Garrison made a mistake by not pushing for the stadium to be added to the agenda and forcing an up or down vote. Yes that move would have cost her the presidency... But she was sent packing anyway.
The flip side is would we have won an all out war then or do we have the better chance of winning now?

I think we have more support now due to a accumulation of issues including the stadium. It's a good debate.
I think that the hammer had not fallen at that point and it would have been easier to win. What they are able to say now is that they never said no - we should have forced their hand and made them say no. By not putting it on the table they were able to keep all of the trustee interference in back rooms and out of the light of the public.

I am worried that we had momentum in December but we are on the verge of slipping into no one cares land. If we do not have a very significant turnout tomorrow - it is not going to be good. We need to have so many people that they shut down the streets surrounding the Alumni house. The trustees should have to walk through the crowd to get to the building.
My understanding is that the item was put on the agenda by Carol and not another BOT member. Therefore, a member of the Board could pull it off the agenda. If another Board member had it put on the agenda it would have had to haven been voted on. IIRC.
With all due respect to Dr. Garrison, she just didn't impress me as the aggressive, assertive, Margaret Thatcher-kind of leader. She came across as very approachable, diplomatic, and nice, which was just fine with me individually, she was adored by Blazer Nation at-large. Perhaps too nice for the scumbags she had to contend with as President of UAB, otherwise, not only would UAB be thriving in athletics, but that (bleeping) football stadium and practice facility would have been built long before where we are today.

People like this don't understand the type of people like Dr. Garrison, they probably seen her as a pushover, someone that wouldn't "make waves" or stand up to them, especially when they were 100% dead (bleeping) wrong!

This is the woman who told me, "If you don't have tenure, I don't want to talk to you."
I don't believe Dr Garrison had any more influence over the OCS issue than Dr watts had over the death of UAB football (and I will never believe that was all his volition). The system BOT runs every aspect of all UA system schools in the same degree that the state legislature runs the operations of the counties and municipalities of Alabama (NO HOME RULE ALLOWED). That's the "Alabama Way" of administering everything.

She did all she could do in terms of "pushing" for it to be added to the agenda. She submitted it, the President pro-tem removed it, that was it. There were no more levers to pull.
Garrison told us all to shut our pie holes & be nice during the last BOT meeting.
Dr. Garrison took a shot and didn't make it. One thing I can tell you about her, every time she saw my three daughters at Blazer Village back when it was in a big tent in the west parking lot, she would stop and talk to them and tell them they all would go to UAB someday. They got to the point they recognized her and seemed to enjoy talking to her.

One thing that would really be a hoot would be that during her time at SACS COC, along with her other duties, she was putting a "package" of information to blow away the UA BoT. Just wishful thinking.
I think Garrison was trying to be nicer/more agreeable to the BOT in dealing w/ them over the major issues we wanted like the OCS rather than the Ann Reynolds give me what I want now approach. It's more a matter of attracting flies w/ honey instead of vinegar approach.

Because she is an intelligent and thoughtful person. She was right then, and if she said it today she'd be right now.
& in the end she still got paid off.

At least that was open communication!

04-jawdrop She flipped you off like that?! Man, I'm sorry, that obviously wasn't very cordial at all, but every single time I ran across her, she was very accommodating and friendly, if you didn't know her right off, you probably would never have guessed she was President of a large University. IMO, she just didn't have the chops to deal with the kind of Riff-Raff governing her and this institution. I'm kind of apprehensive but also curious to ask you how you responded to her insult.

UAB is politics. Everyone plays it, sometimes you're on the right side and sometimes you're on the wrong side. And sometimes Ann Reynolds is president and there's no right side at all.
Don't get me wrong. I liked her a lot - she was ALWAYS at our games and supported the undergrad. I just wish she had made the stand and insisted the OCS be brought up.
STRONG, STRONG, STRONG end to the half. Holy crap so many offensive rebounds there. Our defense responded. Norton settling the offense well.
Yep great game by Norton. Too bad Garrison didn't stand up for the OCS & took the payout.
