I'll summarize. Watts cannot restore confidence.
Some interesting stats:

Of the last 10 presidents to get no-con votes 6 resigned, one was removed by BOT, and 3 are still leading (not counting Watts).

It's estimated there have only been 100 no-con votes in higher education since 1988.
Quote:McKinniss said Watts is taking the same course of action as past presidents that have received no-confidence votes.

"In the past, when presidents have faced no-confidence votes, they have pledged for improved communication, however that could be difficult in this case because I've never seen cases with such a large number of people against the president," he said. "To see an entire community outraged over the president's handling of this football issue and other issues is rather astounding. I don't want to say it's unprecedented, but it's certainly rare."

That's the key. Keeping everyone united against this buffoon.
Quote:Noel Radomski, a professor of higher education governance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said many schools where leaders have received votes of no confidence have taken that as a sign to begin searching for a replacement...

If the board doesn't take tangible action in the wake of the vote and the community uproar, he said there could be ramifications.

"The university could definitely see a negative impact in terms of student recruitment and donations from both private and individual parties if Watts stays on," he said.

The case at UAB is unique, especially because state legislators are getting involved, McKinniss said.

He said Watts' situation could be a landmark case for higher education governance around the nation.

No doubt.
The only thing that Watts could do to restore my confidence is reinstate football and lead the charge for a separate Board of Trustees.

I saw Watts last nigh at the Alumni House for the BBQ pre game dinner. I wasn't sure if it was him or not because he wasn't flanked by security. He didn't stay long however because he was out the door after shaking hands and getting photos with a few members of the dance team. I think.
I might, were I feeling very very generous, accept remorseful seppukku.

To add: I was, by chance, standing amid the rifle team women when they got their text message from Ray Watts.

I will never forget that moment, and I will never, ever forgive Ray Watts.
Whenever you feel like giving the guy a chance, watch the video.

He has had plenty of chances to reverse what he has done & has chosen not to.

Anyone else see the rat at the Alumni House event last night? Did anything give him a hard time? Any fire Ray Watts chants, etc?

He was introduced by Wes Smith and the whole room went silent. He got out of their rather quickly. Fire Ray Watts was chanted at the basketball game though.
I heard via social media from someone who I went to high school with who has a son in the band & maybe another one on the way that Watts was at the alumni event.

I imagine not too many happy campers.

If you have noticed as well, Watts has purchased a green and gold striped tie now.
To say that there was a little lukewarm applause is to overstate it. Call it thirty-five golf claps.
No way I could ever support the guy at this point after knowing what he did to the players & coaches & knowing how he had been scheming this for a while.

Certainly not undoing his mistake will not help. By undoing I mean reinstating everything without some committee determining it is doable.
How can UAB possibly restore confidence in a president who was hired with a prerequisite to shut down UAB football? Watts betrayed UAB. It is as simple as that. "So long, Ray Watts. Don't let the door hit you in the ar** on the way out."

I was in the Student Media Building last night a block away from the Alumni House, hanging out on Facebook, people were posting that there was a Watts sighting there. A function for the band was taking place, and free T Shirts and BBQ (damn, I hate I missed that!). One FB poster says Watts came up behind him, placed his hand on his shoulder and asked him how he was. The poor guy stated he felt the immediate need to shower. Watts supposedly had no security with him and was just walking around, mingling...or trying to based on the number of blowoffs of him I read about on Facebook. The once festive mood in the place seemed to just vanish when he walked into the place.

Maybe...I'm with you on the way he just blew everyone off when he did this (wink, wink!) and tried to posture like it was all his doing, lying-assed poser!

Now he's playing "the kinder, gentler" card. I've said it before, I'll say it again, if he did this on his own, after the social and media ass-kicking he's taken since the "decision", he could have undone it just as easily, but we know the truth, and the truth is not in Watts. I'm betting some of us gave him in our minds a certain amount of time to change his mind, reverse this and restore our sports programs, but he's as stubborn as he is stupid. The longer this goes on, IMO, the greater the level of anti-sentiment will grow towards him, & for an overwhelming majority of UAB students, fans/donors, and city officials/citizens, his time has run out, and it clearly ran out after January 15, so even if he reversed his decision, restored all the teams, built a Rifle Range, Bowling Alley and Football Stadium w/a Fieldhouse on campus with his bare (bleeping) hands!!! He cannot fix the damage done by him and his lord and masters on "Mount Phyllis". He's toast career-wise, and instead of continuing to try and hamstring or bring UAB and the city of Birmingham down with him, he needs to sever his bond with those basterds in Tuscaloosa and tell SACS everything he knows about this dastardly scheme, then and only then, might he garner some favor with some in another regard, but being President of UAB? Hey-Yell, Naw!
There's no confidence to restore. I don't understand what it'll take for him to understand that he has exhausted any benefit of the doubt or any capital of any sort. I would have tried to be forgiving if he at least presented himself as someone that made a serious mistake and was working towards righting it, but he has made multiple mistakes and has not taken one step in good faith.

There's no way Dr. Watts would take responsibility for all the damage he has done to the school. Beyond just terminating programs, I never heard him apologize for calling some of the best students at the school elitists. I never heard him apologize for calling major donors liars on national television. This is a man that never owned up to being wrong and, instead, opted to throw people under the bus. All I see is someone taking credit for things that would have happened without him, and disregarding his mistakes he has made. How is any of that suppose to inspire confidence in anyone?

The new Dr. Watts is someone that is all smiles, and all about going forward because he has over eight hundred thousand reasons to be focused on the future, after all. Nothing is authentic or sincere. Every initiative has been PR motivated and/or a belated, lazy attempt to pacify people that have been wronged. He could announce next week that all the teams are back, and all the wanted facilities are approved. That'd be cool, but I would still want him gone. When we eventually get our teams back, it's not because Dr. Watts is some kind of advocate. He'd have been backed into it. He would have begrudgingly relented as opposed to accepting.

Very well stated. Ray Watts has never apologized for anything.
Agree with Hopeful as well. There is no confidence to restore. It is over for him whether or not he is hearing playing the part or not. Any attempt by him to restore our confidence is wasted energy.

Also we have no reason to feel like we should beg Watts & the BOT to get the programs back. We are not in the wrong. We will do whatever we can though to work towards getting it back all the while also working towards having Watts removed & the BOT dismantled.
