So this is going to keep some athletes that may be very good. setting on the bench at the P5 schools. When they could be starters for Toledo and other Mac schools. An example is the situation we all saw develop at osu. No doubt Cardale would have been a starter at many other schools. However I will say that he may have had a better chance to develop into a better QB at a P5 school. Only because of the larger overall resources available to the P5 school. One could argue that the same thing is already happening today. I do feel that a better chance for overall balance would be cutting the scholarships aloud for a P5 school would be a great start.
If Im not mistaken MOB made the comment that we will be able to give the full value of the scholly as the Big 6 conferences. If that is the case it will be interesting to see if other P5 programs can hang in there with the $$$. This is certainly just the start of the Have's trying to pull away from the Have-less. Very interesting to watch this unfold.
I think this is also a way to limit the "upsets" on the field of play when a Toledo etc...plays a Big $ Conference team. They tend to get embarrassed by those. Keep decent talent of "mid-major" rosters with the promise that they may play "someday" for Big Money U.
FCS schools get by on 63 scholarships with 24 teams playing 13 + games...
FBS should knock it down to 75, leveling the playing field even more. Big school state would rather just stockpile the talent like the good old days. Paranoia, on their part...
