When Phil Savage spoke the other day on Jox I thought this would happen.
What did Savage say?
Anyone found a list of the sponsor for the Senior bowl? I won't be doing business with the guys anytime soon.
The main sponsor is Reese's (The Hersey Company).
Savage stated that all the invites were sent out and if someone declined that would be an opening for a player from UAB or Samford. Then he went on to talk about this player from Mobile that played at Samford and that would probably sell some tickets. I also believe PhilSavage works for the University of Alabama where he got his Masters degree.
How do you leave one of the most exciting college players off the roster? Complete BS. Regardless JJ Nelson will be playing Sundays.
You know, just an All-American. Outsiders who say Blazers are conspiracy theorists can't ignore snubs like this and multiple non-invited to bowls during qualifying years. Ridiculous.
Horse sh**!
This whole damn state is full of it! Its like everyone else against Birmingham and anything associated with it.

As a side note, don't know if it was blazertalk or Facebook but so far J.J isn't showing up on the list of East-West invite acceptances either.
The NFL and it's scouts tell the Senior Bowl who to invite. The Senior Bowl gets 1 or 2 spots to help sell tickets, if they need it. But hey, boycot Reese's. That'll hit them where they live. 03-lmfao

This has been talked about on another thread.

Hey JJ has accepted an invite to NFLPA Game in Los Angeles area for Jan 17 broadcasted on ESPN 2, it's a great game and good atmosphere, will be with Jimmy Jean and Diaheem Watkins, many many NFL Scouts. Ty and Hunter have accepted invites to the Medal of Honor Game Jan 10 in Charleston played at the Citadel. This also is a great game broadcasted on NBCSN NBC Sports Network. I have spoke to the game director for this game. Expecting upwards of close to 200 NFL Scouts at MoH Game this year. There were 160 NFL Scouts in attendance last year. (Phil Savage) has referenced the MoH Game as a winner! Great City and Bowl Committee and Director. They run the event like they are putting on the a Super Bowl. Blazer fans should attend and support Ty and Hunter. Other than Senior Bowl it's the closest.

Last year 96 players in MoH Game and 77 of the participants signed NFL contracts.

Also Dallas Noriega has accepted an invite to the College Gridiron Showcase Game in Arlington, Texas late in January.

I expect a few more players to possibly get an invite too...

As for Senior Bowl yes it gets a little more promotion, but it is not anymore valuable in creating an opportunity for college seniors to play in the NFL. All the games are on equal footing creating opportunities.
Senior bowl is just another aspect of the good ole boy network. The NFL places much more value on the combines than the Overrated senior bowl.
Just so everybody is aware, Nelson is projected as a 7th rounder/fa by legitimate draft sites. It isn't like Roddy White wasn't invited. He's a borderline NFL talent right now.

That's exactly what it is...Believe that!

I'll 04-cheers to that! Damn the Senior Bowl for this! The hits just keep coming, they're penalizing UAB/Birmingham every chance they get! 03-pissed
Really not a big deal if JJ isn't in the Senior Bowl. Would love to see him there, but it won't hurt him. Plenty of other opportunities and he'll get looks because teams love explosive return men. As long as he can get on a team he'll have a shot to prove he's a legit WR as well.
The Chairman of the Senior Bowl is Angus Cooper II. I think he's a former member of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees. http://blog.al.com/live/2010/04/angus_co...other.html http://www.seniorbowl.com/seniorbowl-masa.php

I'm not sure that there's a fix in though. Senior Bowl folks need to keep the NFL, not Baby Bear, happy.

But the NFL calls almost all of the Senior Bowl's shot. The good ole boys can have only 1 or 2 picks, if they need them for ticket sales. These are usually reserved for Mobile players, who are boarder line NFLers.
It was announced on ABC 33/40 earlier tonight that J.J. Nelson is an ALTERNATE for the Senior Bowl.

So, while they aren't considering him for first-round, they ARE considering him, and he will probably be on the sidelines at least.
The big thing at the Senior Bowl is the players work out for NFL coaches throughout the week.

This! More than likely, many of us would have hit the road to Mobile to see him play here one last time in this state, myself included...But, as usual...#Verboten
