I have not been able to see games as frequently since he has been hired. I was at the LSU game and my opinions of what I saw on the court or somewhat negative. At the same time since getting back on the board I see positive opinions of Haase. So just curious to what the overall feel for the program is since Haase took over.

I think he walked in a dumpster fire and has done the best he could. He was hired in the spring of his first year, and basically had nobody recruited. He also had an ex-coach meddling with his players. No reasonable person could have expect much that first year.
His second year, he brought in some solid recruits, but the seniors, and the new guys just didn't mesh for whatever reason. Seemingly every player except Faz took a step back, and nobody really knows why. We had a lot of great UAB representatives on that team last year, but not a lot of great players.
This year, the team was built around a guy who isn't here. We would be significantly better this year with Chad, but that is what it is.
My opinion remains Haase is a great recruiter, and I think he is a pretty decent coach. He has had a lot of turmoil, and just now finally has a team that is all his guys. I think we have a ton of talent, we just have to figure out how it all fits together. We only lose CJ next year, so I am expecting a major leap then. If we struggle again next year, I will start to question him, but right now I am still very pro-Haase.
Yeah, that's what I say too. After almost upsetting LSU before they came back in the 2nd half, I believe we will be a force in Conference USA, in what probably will be our final year there unless the status-quo changes...
...but look at Norton. He's only in his 2nd year, and has already succeeded in getting his Women's Basketball team to 5-4! It could very well be 7-4 by the next time we go on the road! I'd say his team is at least destined for the WBI!
I think the judgement is still out on his coaching ability, just to briefly summarize my thoughts. I haven't given up on him by any means though. Let's see how we do the rest of this year and next year.
He is great for UAB. We need a coach with passion for his team and players. Know we will get better this year and have been amazingly competitive against very good teams and their top talent. We should be improving each game and be a big threat to win the autobid here in Birmingham by seasons end.
Really enjoy watching this team grow each game. Talented high school players shine with talent. In college they have to learn to play team defense. Mistakes will be learning opportunities. Looking forward to our next home game!

And I don't think enough attention was paid at the time to this very strong point which still pisses me off:

I was anti-Martelli at the time but now have serious doubts about who was in the wrong in that case, given the all the wildly inappropriate texting that went on during Haase's first year.
My judgement is reserved until the next two years. I think after next year, we'll have our truest view of his overall performance- his players and his system. By their junior year, this team (currently with 10 freshmen) *could* be holy terrors of the hardwood with one major hole: a true 3 pt shooter.
So currently, I'm still very optimistic.
I like Haase and I think he will indeed become a great coach. He's still new to the head coaching game, and it's not like he's at a powerhouse program.
There have been some unfortunate things happen that have hurt his plans and we seem stuck in the proverbial rebuilding phase, but when I look at the team he assembled to play around Chad, I get very excited about the future. We're a young team and we've hung with some very tough competition this year.
Haase and UAB basketball are both trending in the right direction, I believe.

I agree. That plus the controversy over the Bama player who wanted to come here plus all the transfers who did come creates a lot of smoke.
-He hasn't shown that he can shine in a bad situation. I know that much. Everyone here wants to give him a pass for the first three seasons (I don't know why we'd give him a pass for year 2). What if he had exceeded expectations? Everyone would be showering him with praise to no end. On the flip side, you have to be willing to take the results he's given us and at least say objectively he can't "coach the guys up" or exceed expectations in a bad situation.

Those are all the things that worry me about Haase. They seem to be recurrent themes that have been problems with all three teams, no fluke issues that have gone away.

Norton is about as true as they come. We just need to find a way to get him
5-10 good looks a game in future years.

What you can say is coach Haase couldn't teach Davis recruits his system. That makes sense, because they play very different styles. Remember when the Anderson players became basketball players under Davis? That was a thing of beauty wasn't it?
I don't think anybody cares more about not being in the postseason than Haase. By the way, we are still playing basketball this year. Until the CUSA tournament, we are not eliminated from any postseason.
His defenses are different than what you are used to. Watch a UNC game, and you will see what we are going for. Our close outs are too slow, and our rotations are not ingrained in our players yet. We will get there. Again, as much as I loved our guys last year, they weren't built for this style.
Haase obviously wants us shooting 3s. Not sure why we take so many sometimes, but when it works it's awesome.(USM last year).
We've cut down on turnovers the past few games in case you haven't paid attention. Playing at a faster pace causes more turnovers. Again, new faces are learning to play with one another. It doesn't happen overnight.
What whole team? Rucker and swing dropped off. Williams and purifoy were what they were. Faz definitely didn't regress. The rest of the team was newcomers, so I fail to see how they regressed?
You make too much out of the drop off of a couple of players, and don't pay enough attention to the positives.
Does Haase want to stay and coach in the Sunbelt?
Haase is probably staying put unless he gets the call from Roy to come home. The danger to UAB if we down grade in conference is losing quality assistants. We have already lost one to Clemson. I suspect more may leave as well. Right now they are more marketable than Haase is.
Yep. Our assistants have done quality work that people in position to hire will notice. Haase has not won enough yet in my opinion. I can't imagine he would leave now that he has his pieces in place for what would likely be a lateral position.
