I was listening to Jox and Phil Savage the Director of the Senior Bowl was on. He was talking about how all the invites had been sent out and they were waiting on the players to respond. He stated they would consider a UAB player if someone turned down the invite but right now if everyone accepted there is no room on the rooster. He then went on to talk more about a Samford player more than UAB. My take from the interview was that it will be highly unlikely that JJ will get a invite to the Senior Bowl.
Only the best return man in the country.

Idiots.
Think about it, who does Phil Savage work for? Baby bear and the Tide! He has probably been told that if puts a UAB player on the roster he will lose his color job with the tide.
I remember reading (thought it was on BT) that JJ was playing in the East-West Shrine game. But I haven't been able to find it after this thread was posted. But, if he is playing in the Shrine game that might explain it. Anyone have any info on this?
When you're J.J. Nelson, playing in the Senior Bowl doesn't mean jack crap. His time in the 40 will get him drafted.
If a person can run the 40 yard dash in 4.1 seconds they are running an average of 21 miles per hour but have a peak speed of 27 miles per hour. Smoking faaaasssssst!
JJ Nelson should absolutely get an invite whether or not we have a football team next year or not. Phil Savage is a Bammer through and through. Just adds to the reasons I hate Bammer.

Shouldn't your post be in blue?

Phil is the Executive Director of the Reese's Senior Bowl, who also has a part time gig as a color analysis of the Bama games. I doubt anyone from the BOT has as much sway as the NFL scouts, who advise him on who to invite to the Senior Bowl.

If there were a bunch of scouts asking, then UAB players would be on the roster. And they rarely get all the players they invite, so there's still hope for JJ to make it.

This.

These assclowns can do whatever the hell they want in this state, but the NFL would ***** slap them if they tried playing this petty bull**** on a national level. The NFL doesn't care where you played at, they only care if you can play.
Ty Long should get an invite
In former times, the Senior Bowl was a Mobile event and UAB players were usually passed over. Now it is run by the NFL so if a UAB player is not invited, it's because the NFL scouts didn't want to bring him in. While the game is all we see as fans, it is said the scouts do their work during the practice sessions and may not even stay around to see the game itself. Now that the NFL has its "combines", J.J. is probably not too upset since he won't risk injury in a game that isn't all that important to his future.
The people running the senior bowl are given lists by the NFL of who they want
