Ray Watts has united the UAB campus in opposition to him. Now he is dividing the city of Birmingham.

MB he has united the region against him and the BOT....and I guess you can the add BBA to that list of failures as well.

Glad the BBA is getting called out for that ridiculous decision.

Ooowee! Skewered. Watts has become persona non grata. And he's a native son, no less. Oh well... I hope it was worth it.

Shouldn't the BBA be for Birmingham? This is a unique opportunity for Birmingham to rid itself of the good ole boys and bozos who look down on it and unite everyone in making the city the best it can be. This is becoming more than just football which is a good thing and it's all because of a bozo who cares more than us, ray watts.

I think you might not be acquainted with the membership of the BBA or its predecessor, the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce.

But the bozos Christmas parties would just be so awkward then.

According to Watts, sacrificing UAB football will cure cancer.

You can go to the BBA website and send them an email. I don't have any affiliation with UAB, but grew up in Birmingham and hate to see things done that hurt the city. Here is what I sent -
I'm extremely disappointed in the appointment of Ray Watts as the new chairman for the BBA. I do not live in the state of Alabama, but do own investment property there. I have read nothing but negative articles on the way he has managed the recent controversy associated with UAB. The study he used to make his decision has been widely criticized by the media, not to mention that it appears he didn't allow anyone from his Business School to review it. Other articles I have read indicate that developers are now very concerned about growth opportunities in the downtown area due to Mr. Watts decisions. How can an organization (BBA) that is suppose to do what is best for the Birmingham area elect someone that has so much negative attention? The one positive thing that he has done is to unite the community. To quote the most recent Forbes magazine article on the subject, "The community is not divided, Mr. Watts. The community is united against you."

+1. Thanks!

This is going to hit the BBA like a handful of wet feathers until their funding is pulled next year, then it will sink in.

At least wet feathers are heavier than dry feathers!

This has always been about more than football.

I get the feeling that the city council won't be forgetting anytime soon. Politics is a game of reward your friends and punish your enemies, and I don't think the BBA is on the friends list.v

Reward and punish -- correct. That is why Bama pays UAB's conference competition (USM and FAU for instance) millions of dollars every year and gives none to Alabama teams. Those schools in other states are their "friends" and UAB is their "enemy".

BBA is nothing more than the Birmingham "Fat Cat" Club.
'Fat cat" is a term commonly used to describe a rich, greedy person who, due to ownership of large amounts of capital, is able to "live easy" off the work of others. It is also used to refer to executives whose pay is deemed by others to be excessive.
