Gov. Robert Bentley, before speaking at the Alabama Farmers Federation 93rd annual meeting Sunday, said UAB's decision to drop football had to come from the school's president, not the University of Alabama's board of trustees.

Looks like someone coached him up a little before this interview.
adhering to the party line...

Beat me to the exact same post.
"But that is a decision that the Board of Trustees makes, and I am the chairman of the Board of Trustees and I always want people to remember that." -Doctor Dr.
This looks completely coached up. So, how exactly does UAB decide it's presidents? Anyone know exactly the process that is done for this?

Chancellor oversees a search committee headed by a chairman. Not sure how members are identified and selected.
Those who "matter" will accept this altered statement as gospel while the rest of us know the original statement is the truth. The Governor got a fast phone message to shut up until a new line was sent from Junior. They know the only way to harm them is to have SACS come down on them and perhaps censure the Crimson Tide by putting them on "no post season" probation. Talk about something that would really burn their shorts!!!

And how is the Chancellor put into place?

Is this true for interim presidents as well?

Vote of the board. Not sure if a committee is appointed to oversee that process.

I don't believe so. The board appoints an interim president, I believe.
Anyone that was expecting the governor to actually do something about this situation was bound to be met with disappointment.

Politics aside, this is a man that believes he is making huge strides when, in fact, he is part of the reason the state is so backwards. He is a part of the status quo. He is not the puppet Dr. Watts is, but he is every bit a part of a system geared towards making people believe one of the worst states in the union is doing just fine. I knew he wasn't going to do anything for us from the very beginning. The only way and reason the governor would side with us would be if the story broke open that there was clear evidence that wrongdoing and violations occurred. Until then, it's all about sticking with the company line.
Who do we need to contact to get SACS involved and how do we get in touch with them?

There have been a few threads dedicated to that already, but, to keep it short, you don't simply get in touch with SACS. To start an investigation, an affected party has to submit a formal application with tangible evidence to go along with it.

More than that, a SACS investigation would do much more collateral damage than I think people realize. Losing accreditation and federal funding for any length of time would hurt UAB far more than the slow death of athletics we're experiencing now. It's definitely possible that we'd come out on the other end without the parties that handicapped us for the better part of our existence, but it'd be a pyrrhic victory at best.

Is that what happened at Auburn?

Frankly I prefer a quick death to a slow demise. A baseball bat upside the head is the only thing these guys can relate to. Since I don't have a bat this may be the only option
The BOT is begging for someone to get a SACs investigation going. Hurts UAB. Doesn't hurt the BOT.

Excellent analysis. Robert Bently is one of the weakest Alabama Governors of the last 75 years. He's just a nice old man who knows who's butt to kiss to get campaign money but he doesn't know jack about leadership. I only wish Walt Maddix had run this time.
