When my 6 year old son (die hard Blazer) and I toss a ball or play anything, he wants us to pretend to be sports teams. So tonight throwing the football he said, "I'm going to be the Panthers, who are you going to be?" I said, "the UaB Blazers." Kid you not he says, "no dad, it has to be a real team!" My heart sank. He fought tears at the news on Tues, & today, the resiliency of a 6 year old who seems able to move on. I can't. It made me mad afresh at everything so I think I'm going to start changing our vocab up around my house a bit.

For example, when I fail or screw up I'll say, "boy, I really watted that up."

When I stub my toe I'll scream "mother-watter that hurt!"

When my 3 year old has to use the bathroom I'll ask from now on, "is it #1, or do you need to take a watts?"

If someone's a d-bag, "that guy's a real ray watts."

And so on. Please tell me it's not a pipe dream this man gets fired and that within a decade UaB is free of the UA BoT. Lie to me if you must! There is greater good coming from all this? I'm so proud of the students tonight, but man, on tv Bartow looked barren. Can we hire TCU's president?
From what I understand the student section was packed. It was the rest of the arena that was barren..

The rest of the area a was barren because alumni and supporters are pissed and hurt! A sign of what's to come?

....not another dime from me!

No, the rest of the arena was barren because the basketball team get very little support this time of year. It's been that way for the last 15-20 years.
It is getting less support this year because everyone is pissed.

Up to the students to raise hell now.

Tears, man. Tears.
Oh wait until there are definite decisions made. Yesterday will look like a packed house in 2 weeks if football is not coming back.
My 8 year old is very upset that we will never go to Legion Field for another UAB football game. He gets it.
I had a similar conversation with my 7 & 11 year olds. Its hard for me to explain how this can be done, and no one can do anything about it. This is one of those few moments that Daddy can fix it. And it hard for me to explain a world in which people can do evil things and get away with it. However like your kids, mine have encouraged me. They tend to move on a little quicker than us older folk. After the game last night, I was mentally tired and wanted to go home, but they insisted we join the students in the march from Bartow to the Green. Thank God for the resilience of the students and kids! If the decision is based on their efforts, i cant help but think that someday, we will be playing football again.
I have to say I have been a coward, but I will have to face it tomorrow with football being on tv. I have a 3 & 7 yr old. Everytime my 7 yr old daughter goes outside to play soccer, basketball, or throw the football around with the other kids on the street she says she is a Blazer. Everytime I watch football on Saturdays, Sundays, or Monday night she ask me if the Blazers are playing. I haven't had the guts to tell her what Watts has done. We don't get to a lot of games b/c of being in Huntsville and the typical weekend obligations with kids playing sports and family. But she ask every year to go to a game, and we couldn't get her to one this year. Now, she may never get to go to another one. My heart is absolutely broken. I have experienced some really bad stuff in my life, and this may sound ridiculous to many or unpatriotic to most, but telling her we don't have football hurts me more than when I tore my knee up in '98 and Dr. James Andrews said I would never be able to finish ROTC and continue in the National Guard.
I told someone yesterday that the reason that the story of David and Goliath is so affecting is that, as a general rule, David gets his little ass kicked. Mr. Potter gets the Building and Loan and kills Bedford Falls. The Grinch keeps the toys. The Galactic Empire crushes the rebels.

That's a hard thing for adults to face, much less children.
