So much to read here so I may have missed this being mentioned before. However, given the timing of the "study" and the ill-timed increase in Blazer Club membership dues, could they be intentionally building "data" to justify closing all sports? If they force the price of basketball seats so high that families can no longer afford to donate, they could easily say that giving is decreasing and use that to close other sports. Thoughts?
I have often thought this. How much does UA charge for its basketball games? $8 last I checked!!
Are they going to try to sabotage your other sports too? FWIW, I think it would be pretty crappy if CUSA doesn't let you stay. I'd actually like UAB hoops, soccer, etc. in the AAC to balance out Navy.
They won't have to. We'll be in such a ****** conference due to dropping football and being kicked out of C-USA, no halfway decent coach will step foot here after how the football situation was handled, and no high-level recruits will come here for fear that hoops will go the way of football at UAB. Sadly, interest will collapse in basketball and I believe they'll shut it down too. I'm usually an optimist but, I have no reason to be optimistic with Watts as Pres and UABOT running UAB.
I could think of a better outcome than UAB joining the AAC to pair with navy football only. Talk about Karma hitting back at UAT + its a good fit for all parties if UAB would fund its sports other than football.
We are screwed. The rapidity of the screwness is still in question, but we are screwed.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? I thought it was about financial viability.. er, I mean the Japanese.
I doubt that they would let us accept an AAC non-football offer.

If the motivation behind closing football was really to try to excel nationally with fewer sports, this announcement would have included a more detailed explanation of how that was going to happen. Like new facilities or pursuing new conference affiliation. It wasn't about trying to excel at anything.
