I heard girls saying in hushed whisperers that they were told in emails what was about to transpire, but could not come forward lest their scholarships be endangered. I saw a president of one of the most prestigious universities in the state with armed escort and bodyguards.

And I saw grown men weeping because of the injustice that has been done to a school, city, and an entire state.

I have seen and read Dr. Watt’s letter. It is a manufactured lie. This is not about numbers. This is about a school that has been under siege from a ridiculous agenda and a petty grudge. This is not about financial responsibility or fiscal thinking. This is about a man that was appointed to his post by a board that want to us to only be a cash cow.

A dream for bigger and better things was wounded by people that don’t have our best interests at heart. These men don’t want to see UAB excel in anything except funneling money. They don’t care about students, student-athletics, faculty, alumni, fans, families, the city, or anything at all aside from pleasing the powers that be.

So, no. I’m not going to accept this new athletic plan. I’m not going to accept the tip of the knife sinking into the back of the school I love. I’m not going to accept that a single man can ruin all of our ambitions. I’m not going to accept that the status quo in Alabama, that good men and women trying to do the right thing will always be punished by a small group of people that profit from shady dealings.

They will be exposed.

Just like they don’t care about us, I don’t care how long it takes but I will work towards, at the very least, making sure that this can’t happen again or to anyone else. I will never, ever, forgive Dr. Watts and the Board of Trustees for this.
