Just thinking out loud.

If there aren't enough ACC eligible bowl teams, and if Illinois becomes bowl eligible, could we have a Toledo / Illinois matchup in Detroit?

Not sure if it could/would happen, but I would love to see it.

Count me in! It's not very enticing that we most likely will play another G5 opponent in a bowl game. I want the big boys.

A matchup between Toledo and Illinois would be epic! We could certainly beat them.

But in the end...anywhere but Boise.

You guys would DESTROY Illinois. That would be great.
I think I'd put this into the careful what you wish for category. Illinois is playing much better than UT and UT had nothing to gain with a win over Ill. in Detroit.
FWIW, Illinois beat Northwestern 47-33 and is bowl eligible at 6-6. Illini kept Northwestern from bowl eligibility: Wildcats finish 5-7.

That match up would be the only Toledo bowl game, I will attend. The standard MAC bowls are a joke to attend. We and the rest of the MAC aren't that good, UT should just save the money.
Something that's related (sort of) to the theme of this thread: teams that UT played this season that are bowl eligible are Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Missouri and Cincinnati. And New Hampshire isn't in a bowl, of course, but they are the top seed in the FCS playoffs.

I hope I didn't overlook anybody.

And looking ahead to UT's 2015 non-conference schedule: Arkansas and Arkansas State are bowl eligible this season.

I agree 100% for three reasons:

1) Campbell has never defeated a team from a power conference since he became a head coach, and

2) Toledo has never won a bowl game at Ford Field. Their bowl record there is 0-3, and

3) Illinois is 6-6 and 3-5 in the BIG 10 beating Penn State, Minnesota and Northwestern whereas Iowa State is currently 2-9 (soon to be 2-10) with no wins in conference and with one of only their two wins being over Toledo. I gotta think that at this point Illinois is a much better team than the Iowa State team UT has already lost to.

Yeah...we better hope we get a bowl matchup that we have a shot at winning rather than wishing for an opponent from the Big 10, ACC or AAC. I'm fine with playing a Sun Belt team that's closer to our level.

That was at the Silverdome, not Ford Field.

Remember our best player (HUNT) did not play against Iowa St.

Just looked at the ACC standings and there are 10 teams Bowl eligible?

ACC has 9 specific bowl tie ins. 2 more listed as big ten or acc (not exactly sure how those work out). Those don''t include FSU if they end up in the playoff. All I know is a read an article which stated the ACC might not be able to fill all their slots, I will see if I can find it. MAC is back up for both conferences in this bowl game, just thought it would be an interesting story line, not saying that it will happen.

As i have mentioned before, after last years screw job, I will be happy with any bowl game against any opponent.

Pitt winning might make it a moot point anyway.
Toledo has to be the #3 team coming out of the MAC in terms of selection if the 2 that make it to the MACC are the first to be selected. I would think that unless BG wins the MACC, Toledo would be preferred over them as West co-Champ which included a win over BG with a partially healthy team at QB. Also have Mancz back and Hunt will be 100% by the bowl season. I would love to see them in Boca Raton on Dec. 20th. Plenty of time to go down there, get some golf in and get back for Christmas. My last day of work will be on the 19th until Jan 5th....

I've been to all our bowls at Ford Field and they were all terrible disappointments.
Actually, I can't think of the proper way to describe how awful they all were.
Nice venue though!!

But hey, as Detroit Rocket points out, we did register a win at the Silverdome back in 2001.

As for Illinois...that would be a difficult matchup for the Rockets. One I would not put money on us winning or even covering the spread.
And while I would be likely to go I don't think I would be that fired up.
I guess these predictions aren't any better than any of ours would be, but the guy for cbssports.com projects that the Rockets will meet Fresno State in Boise.

Has the Falcons going to Montgomery to meet UT 2015 opponent Arkansas State, Central Michigan going to Boca Raton to face Western Kentucky, Western Michigan going to the Bahamas to face Louisiana Tech and Northern Illinois going to Mobile to face Texas State.

FWIW, he has Illinois going to Dallas to face the Thundering Herd.

Here's a link. There doesn't seem to be a date on the site, but I'm 99% sure that this was updated after the games yesterday.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...redictions
How do these bowls get decided? Why would the Rockets have to go to Boise to play in a bowl game that is neither a reward for the players or the fans? Why not send Central Michigan out to Boise? They picked them over us last year to go bowling, so why not put their azzes out there? We'll gladly take Boca Raton. Although I'm not sure it would be good for us to play a prolific passing team like WKU, they have also shown they cannot stop the pass or the run.
