To conduct this "study" during the season is really stupid unless you knew you would be forced to make and explain decisions such as future schedules and extending coaches contracts.
I will not support UAB Athletics with my donations(top 50) unless we are allowed to have our own people making decisions about our athletic program. My money will stop and I will be writing a letter to the powers that be explaining my actions.
Not where I thought you were going with this thread, but yes correct. Not good timing.

On a very much higher level, the timing of this isn't good at the very same time that they want our money for their capital campaign.

Every last little mention takes a chunk of skin out of our back.

Like mentioned previously, no other school would dare do this to the program.
Maybe we should just start a thread for those that do not plan to support or donate to UAB Athletics if the football program is dropped. There are a ton of you and each one starting a thread to show his or her displeasure is taking up a lot of bandwidth.

The way things are looking – that bandwidth COULD drop drastically in a couple of weeks. I'll be one.

You ask me, it was by design...Had this happened during the watches of McGee or Callaway, I can't say for sure if the reaction would have been as profound as it is now. But with a REAL Coach like Bill Clark, the fact that the team's in 3rd place in their division (& they were predicted to not win more than 4 games all season, they've already surpassed that, damn, that FIU game is looming large over UAB now) & one win away from bowl eligibility (also not predicted) & being at .500 & being one of the top 5 teams in Conference USA in attendance all in the same season & having built up immediate corporate and civic support for better facilities and such, this "study" is the BOT's "trump card", their "Ace Of Spades", if you will, and you know what that card symbolizes., & they are taking a great delight in playing it on UAB because they are/were gathering momentum & this is exactly what those scumbags do not want to see manifest itself, put them down and keep them down, that is their mission... You think all this is a coincidence? After the Jimbo Fisher/Neil Callaway debacle? After the OCS proposal sabotage? Now this after a clear display of across the board improvement and progress on the field and in the community? I sure as hell do not. And I am on board with you on no more money for UAB from me if they kill or dumb down the football program. Coach Bartow didn't sign on for that, those entrusted to carry his legacy on shouldn't have, either.

They're pi**ing on our backs and telling us it's raining. And I can't think of another school outside of UAH with their hockey team being subjected to this kind of treatment. These people aren't representatives, they're (bleeping) tyrants!
"I will not support UAB Athletics with my donations(top 50) unless we are allowed to have our own people making decisions about our athletic program."

I think this is what every fan of any school would do despite some others trying to ignore that this is the case.
I think this is my first ever thread. Could be one and only.
I have a feeling there's going to be plenty of bandwidth to be had here if this goes bad for the football team, because a lot of posters are going to probably move on & away from Blazertalk after this, which would be sad, I love the vibe and activity here, it's more than on any other bbs I've visited in all these years other than the CUSAbbs itself. We're in a virtual tug of war right now, and if the bad guys win again, what's the point in being here?
It is ironical that the actions we are seeing by the system administration (BOT et al) to do harm to UAB is through our rightious anger being expressed in cutting the funding of that same school's support by our own hands. The ultimate effect would seem to be supportive of their objectives - diminishing the capability of UAB to pursue sports programs. Yet what would be our choices of actions since we obviously can't do the BOT and its toys any harm.

Damned if we try to do something...Damned if we don't?
Money freely given - or put right back into our wallets - is the only leverage that we really have. E-mails are rather easy to trash en masse.

Money talks.
The bad timing from their point of view is trying to do all of this while at the same time campaigning for money for their capital campaign.

That may be hopefully what helps save us here.

This!
Tyrants? They are the type of garbage you would find running North Korea or your typical communist country.

There is some truth to what to what you say. However it's ultimately Dr. watches decision and he has a directive from the BOt to increase undergraduate admissions. That's not possible without a decent campus life and a decent campus life is not possible without an athletic program. They need to understand it if they if they cut the football program their athletic program will go down the drain with it and so will there objective of increasing the undergraduate admissions. As others have pointed out money is the only thing they understand. If they do away with football, they will use money as an excuse. We have to show them that if they cut football money is going to be the problem. They also need to understand that boat to be a flake program also contribute to the university funds and that money will go away as well
I think what we should do is get together all the folks who have decided not to contribute to the UAB athletic program if they cut football and arrange for a mass meeting with Brian Mackin. I think he needs to see how much money is going to be walking out the door.

This, too.

You serious about that? Straight up question, Cajun. Because I'm all for it.
