Lets look at it objectively for a minute. It can show 2 things either UAB Football doesn't need money or it needs major investment, We all know it does as well as everyone else in the CFB world. So lets ponder on those - if it says we don't need money then it's status quo for the program & slowly being left behind by it's peers & no coach/players staying so the program would eventually die from all the various neglects. If it says we need money, what chances do we have that the BOT would go along w/ those recommendations regardless of whether the report says $1M or $100M? (Those very same ones who denied to discuss an OCS at all) We all know it needs massive amounts of capital investment regardless of source. The BOT hasn't shown a willingness to allow that so again we see program as status quo & eventually dying as above. All we've heard from Mackin/Watts is wait, good/exciting things will happen at UAB w/ the report. I don't see any good in any case as long as the BOT holds the reigns & nothing in the report is going to change that nor them, only separation or total restructuring of the BOT w/ resignations to allow equal rep for all 3 universities. If that's what's in the report then again we're left w/ a status quo lingering death as again the BOT controls the Governor (who said he was staying out of it) & the Legislature.

As someone said here a few days ago - even a ship sinking is exciting. Yes they are exciting times but not always for the positive
The Carr Report would be incomplete (and that might be by design) if it doesn't investigate the potential for sources of corporate investment. We know we had multiple investors looking at supporting the mid-term-aborted OCS. The skyboxes were sold.

Knowing they are facing a skeptical public audience, we'll know very quickly whether they care about the supporter's concerns, or if it is a ploy. They'll have to cover everything and leave no room for doubt. If they do that, I feel confident that the value of FBS football in Birmingham is obvious, but kudos to them if they can pull off a herculean effort and show that is isn't.
The more and more I think about it, if the goal was to kill the program, they didn't need to invest in a consultation. I mean really, what's the point? Everyone knows the state of UAB football (over the last several years), they could have simply pulled the plug regardless, and other than the fans, no one would have batted an eye.

There has to be more than meets the eye on this thing.
The consult was a fig leaf to cover the BoT's fingerprints.

We'll see.

But why do they care about that? They never have before.

The BOT knows there will be a backlash. As Band dad said, the BOT can point and say "We didnt kill it, we just did what was recommended!"
& "we've been trying to guide UAB into fiscal responsibility for 2 decades. And now we have a path set for us ."

Normally, they wouldn't care. But UAB (Garrison) forced the On-Campus Stadium issue last time, and the BoT was caught with the dirty deed of actually having to take it off the agenda themselves. This lead to some unanticipated backlash they didn't expect from people they didn't expect it from.

Now, they want it to appear as if it was UAB's idea, and that the board is simply backing it up. Which is what they tried to pull with the OCS, but we didn't let them off the hook.
Demiveeman has hit it right on the head.
I think you guys overestimate how much they care what people think.
Remember how snippy and defensive Fess and Cubby got during the OCS fiasco?
Don't confuse that with regret at how they handled the situation.

They were just upset everyone didn't fall in line with their decision. If they want to kill the program, I just think they are smart enough to know not to put the decision in someone else's hands with a study that may very well come back to point the finger at them for the reasons we find ourselves where we are.

It would be a rookie mistake (given that there was a study done on the stadium proposal too).
We all know what the Carr reports is going to say: UAB football needs a hefty infusion of Benjamins to be successful.

The only wildcard is Watts, and if you've handpicked the guy, then you get what you want without the aggravation.

All those people calling out Carol Garrison for not going to the mat over football (who owe her an apology, BTW) were told, "they'll just run her off like they did Queen Ann and install a yes-man".

Well, here we are.

Garrison was one of the best leaders UAB has ever had. I wish her well!
+ oh, 10,000 or so.

We miss you, Dr. G.

And almost to a man, everyone here expects Brian Mackin to do the exact same thing.
