I am hearing from a Troy person that for sure has reason to know that Troy is willing to pay $800,000+- for the right person. Is it possible that Mr. Mackin thinks a contract extension for Coach Clark needs to include an increase in compensation, in some form, and he does not want to float such a contract request before the BOT until this study requested by Mr. Watts is complete? This whole affair is just too bizarre to not have some sensibility.

Coach Clark still has a season to coach at UAB. If I were him I would wait until the end of the season, then he has more leverage in negotiations with the success he has had in his first year. We still aren't bowl eligible.
The Football Foundation is prepared to assist in any compensation required. That said, I don't think Troy is spending 800K on a new coach when they can't raise the money to do their stadium expansion. I could be wrong. While they have their own board, they still have to answer to it.
Troy would also have to buy Clark out, or would that be included in the $800k figure?
"Stadium expansion"?

Shouldn't they fill the one they've got first?

Hell, UAB was trying to downsize, and the bastards wouldn't let us.
Yes, stadium expansion. This has been in the works for three years. They want to fill in the open end, nuld a new locker room and add seating on top.

One of the architects I am working with is doing this project.
First off, Clark has two years left on his contract, and at this point still wants to be here, if the idiots on the BoT (and our president's office) will just quit screwing him over. Second, he's got a buyout unless there is breach of contract, which he can pretty easily prove, I would think. Third, I'd bet he already has a better offer than Troy. Finishing off his Alabama State pension is the wild card there, I guess. Depends on the offer and who it is from.
Agree with Band Dad.
I would not put it past Cubby Bear to pony up some money for Troy.
Why sure. He'd just be doing right by that poor coach that UAB left in the lurch.
If we're not fielding a team, who cares?

Coach Clark's holding all the cards in this regard. Whatever he chooses to do, I support him, he's already made an immediate impact on our football program, which is just what those bas****s in tuscaloosa don't want to see happen. That's why they're doing what they're doing and the toads in the athletic department and administration are just sitting on their lily pads..croaking the time away...If Coach Clark winds up at Troy, I will become a member of "The Wyatt Family!"
Clark wants to be in Birmingham. Given the slightest bit of the support he seeks by the end of the season, he will stay. He may ultimately wind up in Pike County, but if so it will be because Watts and Mackin essentially ran him off at the end of the season. He does NOT want to be in Pike County. End of story.

This. If this season has proved nothing else its the potential of UAB football, especially with the right coach(Clark) at the head. In terms of football, next season and beyond promises to be amazing. With the core of returning players, the quality of the recruits, and the overall excitement surrounding the program, UAB is a sleeping giant just awakened...

I don't think anyone truly wants to be in Pike County, and I'm not referencing the football program.

A sleeping giant killed before it could awake

What makes you think there has been a breach of his contract? If the theory being floated is correct and football is being ended after the 2016 season, and his contract is only through the 2016 season, what would be the breach?
facilities

Didn't they upgrade some facilities?

I'd bet they worded it in such a way that the "upgrades" they've already made will be enough to satisfy the contract. Especially if they thought they might be ending the program after 2016. Everyone on this site seems to believe this was all premeditated with the length of Coach Clark's contract. If that is truly the case then I find it hard to believe they wouldn't cover themselves in the wording of his contract.

Why are you still here? BTW, have you noticed that every single damn thing that you doubted really happened to the UAB football program has been extensively confirmed and referenced in virtually every form of media the last two weeks? No need to Google anymore!
