I have some questions regarding this study they are conducting.

First, if we drop football that means Basketball and other athletic teams will lose their current CUSA standings correct?

Second, who initiated this study?

Third, the timing of this study is strange. I know a recent study was done in the UAB Health System regarding finances. Why are these studies being done? Is the state government requiring these studies or are they originating from the BOT?

Just need a little background before I write my letters.

Thanks in advance.
Is it possible that this study is to give ammo for Dr. Watts to take to the BOT to justify the OCS. For Watts to intentionally torpedo the athletic program at a 18,000+ major university he leads sounds shortsighted at best or a political hatchet job to appease the BOT in hopes of obtaining some other priority at worst.

First, correct. CUSA did away with non-football schools long ago. There are some, even in our own athletic dept unfortunately, who think we could beg our way into the A-10...which currently has 14 teams. Dr. Watts is, reportedly, of that opinion, but no one knows how much he really cares about athletics' ultimate landing spot to begin with...though we can surmise. The reality is we would land in the Big South or A-Sun.

Second, the Administration. Not the Athletics Dept.

Third, all that can be definitively (i.e., factually) said is that the state government is not requiring these studies. The Administration engaged Carr and Assoc. The "why?" of that is under the table without more disclosure (FOIA request, anyone?). Past as precedent, however, trust your instincts.

Exactly. If the unthinkable came to pass there would be claims that there were misleading assurances regarding the A10. So, in essence, UAB football and basketball would be destroyed - shell of its former state - in one single play... two birds with one stone.
Any reports on the zone show?

It was a very short segment but pretty positive. Scarbinsky basically said that the jury is still out and we should wait and see what the study says and what watts decides to do. The other two said that it would be stupid to get rid of football now when we're doing well and attendance is up.
You want to see the Golden 100 get out of their seats and raise hell? Lose football and have our basketball conference downgraded.

Of course, by the time they realize that, wake up and stop sitting on their hands, it will be too late to stop it.

Basically said that UAB Football has done what the UABOT asked when it denied the OCS. That being increase attendance and increase interest in the program. And both have been done.
Hey guys I am extremely concerned over what I just read. UAB football has just as much right to exist as anyone else in the state. I'm definitely praying for the program right now.

Thank you!

UAB football has a special place in my heart. They were actually the first D-1 school to offer me. I formed some great relationships with Coach Woody, Tuffy Cowe, Coach Ross, Coach Brown and the rest of the staff. I hate the fact that articles such as this one even exist. What's more upsetting is the comments of the clueless idiots who make such negative remarks about UAB with no knowledge of college athletics outside of "Row Tod".
