Sorry to bother y'all during a game but it seems like you have it well in hand! I'm starting to look for hotel and flight info and had some questions.

Is parking hard to find and/or expensive near the arena. We're trying to decide between renting a car or just staying downtown with no car. Reviews of the Best Western Plus-Carlton Suites on State Farm Parkway sound good. $60- $100 cheaper than the choices right at the arena.

Any input on hotels, parking etc? I will be back closer to the tournament for dining suggestions.

Thanks
You will want a car near the civic center, unless you are staying at the one adjoining hotel and have no plans to go anywhere else. The civic center isn't in the greatest of neighborhoods and eating opportunities in the immediate area are slim.
from the hotel connected to the hospital ,,,you can walk to bartow arena
It's at the bjcc
sorry
stay at the bjcc hotel
I'm with MB. Rent a car. Stay in the area you are looking at. I don't think you'll have much trouble with parking.
agree with memphis. if you're planning on going hotel, games, hotel, games, no car is needed. if you want to do anything else, i think a car is probably worth it. you could get around calling cabs, but i would think that renting a car would be well worth it (unless you plan on spending most of your time drunk and won't want to drive--which i certainly understand)
If you book a room at the new Westin now, it should be cheaper. You can walk to the arena and it's in the new Uptown district.

I rarely post here but the idea that there are slim eating opportunities in the BJCC may be the most ignorant thing I have seen posted here. In that Slim area today I had brunch at Todd English, going to Mug shots tomorrow and doing Texas de Brazil ( the record setting store for that chain) next week end and my kids are at the Mexican place there now. Very good very busy in Uptown.
Which hotel is connected to the hospital?

Thanks! Keep the suggestions coming.

You rarely read here either if that is the most ignorant thing you've ever seen here. I haven't been around the BJCC in a couple of years, so it may have changed. I still wouldn't stay there or not rent a car if I was coming into town for the tournament.

And ignorance echoes itself...read al.com or something about how big a success Uptown is at BJCC or refrain from ignorant advise about somewhere you do not know about. Sheesh I hate the negative tone sometime on here but really if you don't know crap then don't say crap...it helps you not look full of crap.

Took the civic center critique a bit personally, did we?
There is a free bus ride that goes from the civic center area up to the UAB area and back all day long ( and probably at night too??).. There are many great restaurants on the Southside ( where UAB's campus is located ) and there also are several at the new Uptown entertainment district ( mentioned above) adjoining the Civic Center's 2 hotels. You dont need a car to be able to get around in the areas mentioned herein.
You could just use Uber for a ride. Oh I forgot, city council nixed that. Concerned for our safety.
Some people like to post, but when people are asking about parking, dining and hotels we really should not post if we don't know. People are counting on us for valid travel info.
I have enjoyed the parking, dining and hotel rooms at BJCC since Uptown was built. I would want to check out some of the world renown restaurants in the city and rent a car. I would be happy staying at BJCC area as well. Depends on how many men's and or women's games you will be attending.

Ok, make that, "There are a number of places to eat nearby if you don't have to worry about how much you spend".

I'd get a car. Your food and entertainment options will be much enhanced. Pinned at the top of the page under "Important Threads" is the Blazertalk guide to Birmingham. There are a number of good ideas in that thread.
Related to the tournament, anyone know or have a guess how much tickets for students will be? Same as everyone or discounted?

Knowing some of the types that might come to the tournament, I would be persuaded to mention to them the eating establishments in the surrounding areas instead of those right around the BJCC.

Most probably do not want to pay $200 for a meal or even $100 with a decent sized family.

Mugshots and Southern Kitchen actually has decent prices for their food. I think Todd's does as well.
