Best of luck to him and his recovery! I think we will still have a decent year.
That sucks...hope he sticks around and comes back to finish what he started. I think we would have seen him improve game after game...he can definitely play and seemed to see the whole field...spreading the ball around and getting all involved. I think I was more bummed about his injury Saturday than I was with the loss. Tough to lose such a key part of the team in a game that has no beariong on the conference race.
He hadn't really had much game action in several years other than the first game of this year, yet he had some sort of wrap/support on that knee at the start of the Mizzou game. Did he have past injury issues with that knee?
If you look at the photos from New hampshire game the white sleeve was not there

None that I knew of.

Thanks...wow, that really sucks...especially for someone like him who was waited so long to get his shot.
No shist...with all the injuries both squads are experiencing, will we have enough players to play in November? I have all my eligibilty left....but not much stamina... nor cartilage in my knees
I feel worse for Ely than I do for the team. They say "good things come to those who wait", but Ely has been waiting quite a while now.

Woodside and/or Julian should be OK----at present I am more concerned about the Coaches' correcting mistakes from Saturday than I am about the QB. UT looked at lot more disorganized against Missouri than against New Hampshire and although Missouri is a clearly superior team, much of UT's woe on Saturday was self inflicted. Teams are supposed to improve as the season progresses not take a step backwards.
To me, that hand clap thing by the QB is moronic. That DE from Mizzou had it figured out by the second series.
the damn turf monster got him....

Maybe no other teams do the hand clap thing for exactly this reason.
Because its stupid.

the handclap is definitely apart of the offense. I was chuckling everytime he did it and then I saw the backup quarterback do the same thing. LOL.
Is there a new OC this year?

Don't like it, but Ohio State did it all last season and I also saw Nebraska do it.

It is no worse than calling a snap count. The defense does not know if the ball will be snapped on the first clap, or the second. They also imitate the clap by bringing their hands together but not clapping. That is to ensure the defense does not try to time the clap.

Having said that, the clap seems to affect our offensive players by even more. They are on the same page as the defense because they have to wait for the clap that will call for the ball to be snapped. What confused me is when I heard the game announcers say that the center determines when he will snap, it can be immediately or delayed. That makes no sense - and I assume it is just conjecture.

The DE from Mizzouri was not timing the clap. If you watch him - he just got a great jump off the snap - and was not jumping offside when they went to the second clap - or faked a clap. If he was jumping on those - then I would say he was timing it. What hurt us the most is that Nelson looked like his feet were cemented to the turf.

Just need to go to a normal cadence and use that to try and draw the defense offside on occasion. I don't like the clap for the snap of the ball, but I also don't believe it had anything to do with the pass rush effectiveness.
Ely may have been on his heels when he knew he was getting the ball so the DE would look at Ely's feet and not even paid attention to the clapping. Not sure. Defensive players probably clap and crap too. Anything to make the O line mess up. In the end we got beat...for the first time in a long time by a Dline. Mizzou didn't even kill us last season this bad on the lines. Quick dudes....

Got to move on. We will play some more physical teams but no more as athletic or talented at their own positions. They didn't bull rush over us, they blew past us and around us. On offense when they got on the edge they went around our contain and Mauk beat us with his agility and speed. NO ONE else we play is like that. BG is probably the closest but Johnson was a big part of that. UC has some good receivers but no one knows what the hell they will do this year. On defense or offense... should be a wild one. Our D is pretty depleted. Hope we get away injury free!

disagree, the biggest edge mizzou had in the game was the def ends getting step on the snap. a part of that was their quickness but it was certainly also a function of them jumping the snap. repeatedly, guys where borderline offsides they were so confident of the snap timing. sure seemed like the clap, but maybe there was a cadence aspect as well. i'm sure other coaches will be showing that tape to their d lines
