I saw a lot of "someone tell Kansas this is how you do big head mascot" type comments around the articles on UAB's new helmet. I'm biased, but I have to agree. Not sure EXACTLY what makes our lid closer to winning and KU's a definite loser, but it's there...

Because I didn't want to derail the thread on our uniforms with a crack on Kansas' helmets.

Kind of hard to make a fierce looking jayhawk.

I don't mind the Kansas one too much, but I do absolutely love our new helmets. I think the main thing hurting their helmet is just the nature of their logo. I think the general proportions and style of their logo doesn't work well with the modern big helmet logo style. They have a very classic, kind of cartoony, mascot, which is fine, but it just doesn't mesh with the helmet style. I think our helmet works due to the length of the logo, a little more intense looking, and the scales definitely help. Boise State is another example of a big logo done well, but their logo also has a little more intensity than the jayhawks logo.

In summary, I just think it hard to make a big cartoon bird look intense on a football helmet. Maybe a more classic helmet with that new uniform would have fit better. Not sure.

I like both the helmets but I especially like ours. They are AWESOME. The only small gripe I have is with the color, as others have said..

I feel like the color will look a lot better on TV and in the stadium. I really can't wait to see it in person.

The Kansas helmet is a little loud for my taste, but as they, say variety is the spice of life.

If the Kansas helmet had a blue or white background, I think it would be an awesome looking helmet. Like JeffUAB said, it's a little loud but not bad looking.

Agree. It needed to be blue or white and it would look great. The red on red hurts it.

When you have a happy cartoon bird for a mascot, it's hard to make it look cool.

I like the new Kansas helmet.

That bird would look better on a blue helmet. I like Kansas in blue better anyway.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't hate it either. Maybe the school whose mascot it is appreciates it even though it looks goofy. Love the shade of red on there

All that red makes my head hurt.

Does Kansas have to pay royalties for using Toucan Sam on their helmets?
